A week or two back, someone posted a link to a page that talked about Kosher beer and said that if you want Kosher beer, you have to make it yourself. I can't seem to find that thread now, does anyone have that link handy?

As long as you use the equipment only for beer and nothing else then it would be kosher. I guess you would have to use a dedicated turkey fryer outside because of the cross contamination in the kitchen. What would not be kosher about beer?

I remember that link, but I can't find it either. Anyway the way a beer becomes non-kosher is the sugar IIRC. You need to use certified kosher sugar and I think DME and LME also in order to have a kosher beer.

doesn't the product or project need to be bless by a rabbi?

Having Jewish relatives…just because something is made with Kosher products does not make the end result kosher. The Rabbi must over see and bless the equipment and supervise the “cleanliness” of the process. For example, if you used a carboy to make non-kosher beer, then you could never use it to make kosher beer, as it has become contaminated. It is along the same principle of having separate dishes for dairy and meat. Once one has touched the dishes it can never come in contact with the other.

I though a glass carboy would be considered parve (sp?) and would not become "contaminated".
