This from Norm's:
"There's a mountain of Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale that just appeared in the store!"

Mmm. Good.
I just sorted out the big pile of beers in my basement and found four or five left over from last year. Had one last night and it was still excellent - perhaps a little mellowed, but still delicious.

I spied a huge pile of it in Whole foods last night as well.

12pks this year for the first time
Maybe you mean first time for Virginia, but I've bought Celebration in 12 packs in previous years in NJ. (I know only because the empty boxes are used to store my work gloves and I see 'em everyday as I walk from the garage into the mud room).
Over on BA, I've seen folks mentioning that in some areas 2-12 packs are actually cheaper than the case price (!?)- possibly that's in states and/or stores that don't routinely offer a case discount and the case price equals the 4 X 6-pack price. So, if you're like me and pick up a case of Celebration automatically when it first comes out (and maybe another in a month or so, as one waits for Bigfoot...) it might pay to check prices on the 12's first.

That's correct, first time in NoVA.
Here in NoVA, Celebration Ale has various prices at wholesale, depending on format and quantity, which could cause the situation you describe.

Now how long before the
"Is it me or is it not as good as last year's?"
threads start.
Me? I'm always happy when Celebration comes to town...unless you mean that Kool and the Gang song at a wedding.

I had 3 pints at the Old Chicago on Colorado Blvd in Denver, my local. Don't know when they got it, it was after Sunday, but Wednesday night was the first time I've been in since then.
I personally believe last year was a little less hoppy-in-your-face, than this, not that this is in-your-face by today's standards. Only perfect IMHO, in its balance beteen citric and pine, and in its location exactly on the right point on the hoppy-to-malty balance scale, for an American IPA, to my old-ass taste buds. And it's simple too, most homebrew clone recipes call for 12 lbs of two row and 1 lb of 45-50L crystal, Chinook for bittering and Cascade for flavor and aroma with a Cascade and Chinook dry hop.
Variety is nice but if you had to cut it down to two IPAs it would be this one and Bell's Two-Hearted, for this tourist.
This is one great beer year after year, and this year is no exception. I LOVE this beer.

On a related matter I've seen Anchor OSA and I have reports that Saison Dupont Avec les bons Vieux is about. The triumvirate is here.

I weigh 228 lbs and I drank those "pints" (actually 14 oz shakers) over a full 2 hour period. Not that it matters, but I live within 1/2 mile of the place and routinely walk if I have a fourth "pint". Not because I am impaired, but because I am extremely aware of the law and the effects on one's life of ending up on the wrong side of it.
You see, I am a DUI lawyer and have consulted numerous times with toxicologists--not to mention, taken their testimony on direct, and cross-examined 'em--and have even done the training session with the police where volunteers drink measured amounts over measured time intervals, and are breathalyzed at intervals as well. I am 100% confident that my BAC would have measured <.05, Colorado's limit for impaired driving. FWIW I believe myself to have been at no more than .040 when I left. I remind that even the .05 limit is arbitrary and based more on politics and rhetoric and the efficacy of the MADD lobby than any real scientific evidence with regard to impairment of motor skills at that level of alcohol concentration.
Be conscious and careful with regard to consumption, know your own limits and metabolism (one size DEFINITELY does not fit all, here), do nothing to endanger the public, but at the same time do not let the neo-prohibitionists terrorize you to the point where you remove all the pleasure from your life. These people hate pleasure, and want to sow seeds of fear so that you will forgo it as well.
Back to the topic at hand: SNCA is a great pleasure. (to be enjoyed responsibly) If you are less sure of your own metabolism, stop at one or for guys as big as I am, two. If you want to live life as prescribed by MADD, don't drive after having any.

Brewhoo, what cross street on Colorado? Mine up at 120th and Colorado doesn't have it yet. Mayhap I should travel south a ways to sample a tasty beverage.

Colorado and Louisiana, just a little north of I-25. (which runs more or less east/west through that stretch). That's about the 1400 block south, so you're only 134 blocks away!
Didn't know there WAS one at 120th and Colorado, I'll have to start calling mine the SOUTH Colorado Blvd Old Chicago!
Say hi, I'm the guy bitching because they can't/won't put the U.Va. game on...

Good to know you were in good shape -- I know the Celeb can be sneaky, and well -- you already understand the consequences.
And not to support MADD in any way, but there's no police officer who's going to listen to reason of arbitrary politics and rhetoric after pulling you over when he sees you drive out of the tavern's parking lot. Not truly fair, but that's how they work.

Word. Not that I suggested such an argument, on the street or even in the courtroom. Now if all he sees is me "pulling out of the tavern parking lot" before he pulls me over, he's going to have a little probable cause problem, but that again is not an argument for the street. But it'll carry the day in court.

OK 'nuff said indeed.
On another note the ClayPipe "Pursuit of Happiness" is in now too (grabbed a sixer at wholefoods today). Love this stuff. Appropriate weather is expected to arrive soon as well (as soon as this Tornado warning is over)

I had Pursuit of Happiness last year for the first time and it blew me away. If it's as good this year I'm laying in some supplies.
(we had some hefty wind downtown but nothing too bad. I think when the temp drops in the next hour or so we'll know what's what).

I was out and the rain came down hard but I was unaware of tornado warnings. I really pelted rain so I spent about an hour in the new German Gourmet Store on Columbia Pike. I like it better than the Falls Church location. Picked up a selection of Kolshes along with my food.

I was at Whole foods yesterday in Fairfax (11/15) and they tapped a keg at the seafood diner thingy, and it was delicious!

I picked up a magnum of Anchor's OSA at Famous Liquors in Lombard, IL. It's become one of out traditions to share that at new years'.
