Had this on tap the other night at the local bar. I have to admit, this is the first Rogue brew that I was not very impressed with. I thought the hazelnut flavor was just overwhelming.

I do not like Hazelnut coffee so I doubt I would like this.

See, I do like hazelnut coffee, which is why I thought I would like this, but it is not a flavor I like in beer apparently.

i haven't been real impressed with anything from rouge i've tried.
dead guy, chocolate stout, a red i think, and maybe one or two more. there was the skull splitter which i was looking forward to trying but my wife got it ! every thing i tried was good but not something i would puchase on a regular basis. too much compitition , but thats the beautiful thang about beer!

The only Hazelnut from Rogue that i had was from the Morimoto Signature series (22oz bottle & Draft from a recent Beer Festival). I definitely enjoyed it. Yes the Hazelnut flavor was a bit strong in the front, but it combined with the hops for a very interestingly smooth finish.
I don't know if the Signature series Hazelnut is the same recipie as the regular Rogue Hazelnut. If not, I suggest you try the Morimoto verson. The differences may dissuade your opinion.
Coffee, mmmmm...

Better pray for my soul then too. I am not a big fan of Rouge products. I will admit that it has been some time since I had any of their beer. Perhaps it is time for me to visit a Rouge again. I find that taste shifts do oocur.

yea give em another day in court. They are hands down my favorite brewery. I keep a steady supply of yellow snow and buckwheat for session beers.

havent you tried stone? alesmith ? victory? allagash? dofish head? bear republic ? three floyd's? when i go to the beer store i can find a 100 other beers i'd rather have then rouge, not that rouge is bad beer. i just always seem to find something i like better....well each to their own i guess, i've never tried the yellow snow...or any yellow snow for that matter! afa the beer yellow snow i guess i may be missing out, ahh what the hell i'll give it a go, but if im disappointed im blaming you! :p

heh Ill take the blame. Rogue is a diferent animal than the likes of stone though. So if stone is your fav Rogue will not do it for ya. I equate beers that Rogue makes to beers that Stone makes that have been aged to perfection. I myself dont much care for Stones IPA right off the shelf, but give it 6 months and it is sublime. Rogues stuff is ready for me right after I buy it.

aging an ipa from stone??? what an interesting concept.. i may try it. my wife loves the smoked porter and im an arrogant bastard myself , although lately i've been a double bastard!

aye the double is a great beer. I noticed that stone posted a homebrew recipe for the 03 epic. I am going to make it. I wonder if they did that for the 02, would be cool to make a batch each year and in 10 years do a side by side vertical!

yeah they did release the 02 recipe, i saw it some where...wish i could remember, i punched 02 02 02 on the computer search engine (in my fruitless quest with a small gleem of hope that one just may be floating around on the internet) and the recipe came up! check over at stonebrew i think it's still there but not im sure.
if not go to yahoo i think it was and punch in 20.02.02 recipe and i bet you'll find it. if you make some let me know i'd like to taste it! i could trade you for it too, im in socal.

I have liked a few Rogues really well. The dead guy is a great brew. We can't get Stone beers in Iowa, so I have never had one. I am interested in the Arrogant bastard, but I am not what you would call a hophead. I generally prefer a maltier beer. Sam Smith's brews are my favorites. The oatmeal stout is easily the best beer I have ever had.

This's the 2nd hazelnut beer I've tried, and the 2nd I didn't like. The 1st hazelnut beer was that god-awful Sam Adams one, I got 4 of'em in a Mystery Case from BevMo & gave 3 to my wife's hairdresser. I just don't like the taste or the mouthfeel of these beers, I think it's the oil from the nuts that I find so awful.

Yes, you owe it to yourself. I haven't had many of their beers but I suggest trying the American Amber, Shakespear Stout, and my personal favorite, Younger's Special Bitter (YSB). I think their brewer is some kind of Beer God, but that's just my opinion. Enjoy!
