So my father and I have been growing some hops plants for the last 20 years or so, and just recently found some extra wild hops, in a back corner of our property. anyone know any good tips on possible identification of hops strains?

I know it is possible to differentiate/identify some varieties by examining the shape and size of the cones...you might Google what different varieties look like?
Also--NY used to be a major hop growing state. Info about which varieties were commonly grown in the state might be available on the web somewhere. This info might help you narrow down your list of possible IDs via size/shape of cone.

I grew up in Elmira and am still a huge Ithaca fan, good to see you on the site.

I am from Penn Yan originally, and that is where our hops are, my family has a old farm there. grew up there. and my father found the new hops when he was black berry picking the other day.
thanks for your input. I will try a few searches.
