Hey all. I'm headed to the Great Salt Lake, well, to the city for a family reunion with Al's family. Can anyone give us an idea of a good place to get beer? Particularly a pub or brewpub? We looked on line but the information was totally conflicting, so thought I'd ask the experts!

Thanks.

I was there a couple weeks ago on business. They do allow beer, they just have weird rules about it. You have to either buy food with your beer or you have to join a "club" to be able to drink there. The hotel I stayed in included the "club" membership as part of the perks of staying there, so I had a couple in the hotel bar. I had a Cutthroat Pale Ale from Uinta Brewing. It was more of an amber in color and malt flavor, but it was quite good.

There are a number of BrewPubs in SLC, so I'm sure you can find a nice one for dinner. A pubcrawler listing can be found here:

Thanks guys. We ended up (after a long and arduous walk) at Red River. I had the English Summer Ale, very light and refreshing after a long, hot walk; and their Rauch. I had never had a Rauch Bier before and liked it okay, but Al didn't like it at all. I think he expected more smokiness, or more going on. It was not very demanding, but I've never had a Rauch before, so I wasn't sure what to expect beyond the smokiness. It had a nice mouthfeel, but the smokiness was just smokey; not bacon smokey or salmon smokey as I've heard other Rauchs described.

Scott, that was MY first reaction as well. ;) They certainly TAX you enough!
