View Full Version : Color reference?

A while back I had read that you could take a Micheloeb Special Dark beer and with precise dilutions get a reasonable example of certain colors on the ° Lovibond scale ( close to SRM). I believe special dark has been discontinued, at least in my area. Does anyone know of another way to compare the color of my finished brew to a known color? I've searched the rest of the threads but maybe I'm just not using the right keywords.

Check out some of these links as reference:

Some cool stuff out there! Probably easier than mixing & matching separate beers.

Thanks alot, these really help. I guess a "color wheel" is alot easier to use than diluting and keeping samples around. I use beersmith so it gives me a good estimate but I've been trying to brew within style guidelines (just to see if I can do it) and it's interesting to see the correlation between estimates and "real" color.
