SWMBO let me have a few $$ today so I went to the "paint" store and bought 7 brews.
"Merry Christmas & Happy New Year 2003" by Anchor Brewing
"Black Jack Porter" by Left Hand Brewing
"Sterkens Dubbel Ale" by Sterkens Brewing
"Maredsous 8o" by Duvel Moortgat
"Sprecher Seasonal Dopple Bock" by Sprecher Brewing
"Old Man Winter Warmer" by Lake Superior Brewing
"Batch 6000 Ale" by Bell's
The "Old Man Winter" is a barleywine style ale...can't wait to try the Bell's.

Well better make that 6 brews. I tried the Black Jack Porter...LIQUID CARAMEL!!! That is what it tasted like at first...then it got complicated...I think they use either Fuggles, Northern Brewer or Willamette hops for aroma. I've used those hops before and I remember the smell. Not too bitter...I'd guess around 30-40 IBU, but it was good. I would definitely try this one again.

my take on this one: "...just picked up some Anchor X-Mas today. A very interesting beer; lots of banana in the aroma, especially when swirled a bit in the glass. Definite spice, some sweetness with roasted coffee undertones. Finishes with a real bitter bite: I think this would be terrific cellared, which I plan to do with a couple bottles."

Sounds good...my local "paint store" carries a few LeftHand brews; I will have to look for that one.

Lake Superior's Old Man Winter is really good...I tend to buy a six each year and cellar a couple....
