Here's a list of beers that that are sold at the LCBO and were rated by Michael Jackson as among the best 500 beers in the World.

Hope someone finds this useful. Print it off or whatever and you can take it with when you buy beer.

A lot of great beers have come out since that book was published in 1998. Not a bad place to start, although I question a lot of them being "world class", but regardless, it is an incomplete list.

I agree that the list is incomplete. It's really Michael Jackson's list, not mine. The point is to illustrate that you don't have to pay a whole lot more for great beers.

I stand by my claim that these are all world-class beers.

LCBO seems to be improving - according to my Toronto buddies. They are already getting Southern Tier's Ales and Dogfishhead 60 minutes is in the warehouse!!

Very true. They even sell Rogue Dead Guy Ale now.

However, as long as the Ontario government tightly regulates the sale of beer in Ontario I believe it is my right to have the LCBO carry any beer I want to purchase and if they don't carry them, I believe it is my right to purchase those beers on the black market.

I returned from a trip to New Zealand flew in to motreal then drove to Ottawa to spend a weekend paddling with my father While there I dropped into the LCBO which were having a beers of the world event on and picked up some brews I have read about but never tried before, as the kiw's say Choice.

This seclection was much better than what we have in New Brunswick but all of Canada is behind in the trade of beers and liquor in general with interprovincial tarrifs that help prevent the smaller guy from having influence in other areas of the country!
