Well I made the big move and tried to introduce my family to homebrew on THanksgiving. I took my iniital HB batch with to family get together. I was being nice by sharing, but hated to give it all away. I was happy when most of them said it had "too strong a beer taste" and they went back to their budlight. They are ones that say it seems crazy to make it when they can buy beer for $15.00/30pk. I now know what others have meant when they talked about others preferring "cheap" beer instead of a HB that you could actually taste.
Made me proud to be able to take some full bottles home with me to drink on another day.

It's weird isn't it?
I wonder if it's a recessive gene that makes us realize that there's something better out there and seek it out? (And know it when we find it?)
Glad your holiday went well...

I had one person (out of 15) drink two of my homebrews. The rest didn't even taste it, saying they "don't like heavy beer that have all the gross flavors in it." (meaning hops and malt).
The first thing anyone said to me when I walked in the door was, "good luck drinking all of that yourself."
I had a half rack of pumpkin ale (really smooth and subtle), and a half-rack of my cider.
I thought I was being nice bringing a full case with me, but I definately won't attempt to share with that group again - next thanksgiving I'm bringing enough for me.

I had pretty good luck. Brought a twelve pack (6 porters and 6 old ales) and ran out. Two of my cousins want to learn how to brew.

I too brought some samples to the Thanksgiving feast. A Celebration Ale clone and the last of my Dunkleweissen. I was just headed back out to the car to bring them in when I passed my wife's uncle coming in from the garage with a case of PBR.
Only one person even wanted to try my brew, a cousin from Boulder who knows good beer. He loved it, and is going to start brewing soon himself.
Oh by the way, the PBR went fast...

Fortunately, most of my family is pretty receptive to my home brew and fairly adventurous as well. Not only did we drink good beer the whole weekend (both mine and commerical), I sent everyone home with a mixed sixer of my homebrew as well.

i did t-day w/ SWMBO's family this year.. brought a 6er of my cranberry wheat and a 6er of my pumpkin. (sent the same with my parents to that side's dinner). everything was well recieved, but they were mostly more into thier wine. one guy - my girl's cousin's boyfriend - was into beer, and would actually like to learn to brew.
of course, i must have inherited the beer gene from my parents, so everything went quickly at their dinner, with more questions than my dad (who doubles as my apprentice brewer!) could answer. next year will be with them, so they'll get their turn too!

SWMBO = She Who Must Be Obeyed (aka wife).
