View Full Version : Does your home brewery have a name?

Bob E.

I was loosely using Sand Lake Brew. Sand Lake was the name of the road I lived on. My uncle came up with it after sampling a few, and I kinda liked it. Now that I've moved I have been trying to decide on a new name.
This has got me thinking how many people have named their home brewery and what did you come up with?

My softball team gives every player a nickname - nice or not. After bringing homebrews to the after-game festivities I got the name "Bootleg." I now call my operation Bootleg Brewing.

I like to keep it simple and use my last name, I am of German/Swiss origin so it works for now. The original spelling was Saeger, but after my ancestors moved to America it was changed to Sager, pronounced "Say - Grr", I will probably change it at some point keeping with a German Theme, but for now it is:

Sager Brewing Co.

Dented Cap Brewing Co.

So named after one of my batches, where the "red capper" put an indentation in the top of the majority of the bottle caps in the shape (and size) of the magnet in the capper. :-)

This is true. I started brewing 20 years ago and I'm still like a kid waiting for Christmas when it starts fermenting.

Yeah I can see why this is addicitng.
my mind is already racing with ideas, thoughts, crazy concoctions!

In fact, the night before I brewed, I kept dreaming about it.
And last night, I dreamt some more.

I started brewing with my college roommate a few years back and we dubbed ourselves "Shirtless Brewers" and brewed bare chested. Now that we both graduated and moved out I've gone with "Martin Brewing Co." and he goes by "Crazy Viking Brew."

I go by Worringer Brewery (or rather "brasserie de Worringen" in french).

I am from Cologne, Germany and I live in Brussels, Belgium.
In my quest for a name that would have a relation with both these towns, I stumbled uppon Worringen; nowadays a subburb of Cologne. In the 13th century there ahs been a big battle there in which troops from Brabant (the region Brussels is located in) have joined the troops from Cologne to fight a common ennemi (the archbishop of Cologne).

For more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Worringen ;)

And I have to say: my Worringer Kölsch is quite tasty...

I've been trying to come up with something related to some of my other interests, but I just can't come up with anything that sounds right to me.
I thought about going with my last name. I was always told it was of German origin, but I ran across a website while googling myself that says it originated in Belgium. So hey, either way :D Of course that website also wanted me to buy my family tree...
Right now I'm leaning towards sticking with the street name idea: Evans Street Brew House.

A friend of mine, named Joe, has named his brewery "Joe's Garage Brewery."

Love the FZ reference. I'm not sure I have tried any of Joe's efforts.

In the 70s and 80's it was Chucklebrau Brewing.

If I were to open a brewpub in Northern Virginia I would call it Patriot Brewing, sort of based on the colonial history. I like the concept of the future Mad Fox brewing for a brewpub in our area.

If I were to open a pub and no brewery I'd call it Chuck's Joint, or Chuck's Beer Joint. Hopefully it'd be a neighborhood hangout like Vienna Inn. A few simple foods and great beer selection with a couple of hand pulls. Comfy pub atmosphere with wood floors and wood tables and chairs. I might hang some of my breweriana. No loud music or TVs. No Sports bar crap. No meat market pick up bar crap. Just a simple, basic beer bar. A local place to hang out or stop by for a couple on the way home from work.

No loud music or TVs.

Nice classic rock, or stuff more eclectic like southern culture on the skids, but at a very manageable level, where you can talk at a normal level to the guy next to you. On the TV, I do like to watch the news while having a beer...and that is usually cause for at least one more...

The Hockey Barn Brewery which is proud to produce Blue Line Barleywine and Goal Crease IPA.

The Rock Bottom here in Arlington re-branded their pale to the Blue Line Pale Ale when the Capitals built their practice facility in the same building (only 2 reasons I go to that mall). It has become a good spot for post beer league drinks as long as you don't get stuck with the late game (11:15 pm here).

I have named my brewery Deuce's Wild in honor of my last name that spawned some other nicknames (see userid).

I live in Pensacola, FL. This one passed us by, I hope the people of south Texas, and Mexico fared well. I got hit by Ivan, and by Dennis a few years ago. Both blew down the ol' smoke stack as well as my privacy fence. A very small price to pay compared to what others dealt with. I could live with out ever seeing another one as long as I live, but unfortunately tis the season.

Mine used to be Bad Show Brewery, due to my affinity for horrible b movies.

However, I have since changed it to Hounds Den Brewery, to match the home bar I'm going to build some day(maybe this summer if everything goes right).

All of my older beers had bad movie names attached to them:

Boggy Creek Stout
Hercules Against The Blue Moon Men
Lawnmower Man Wheat

All of my newer brews have to do with hunting or hunting dogs.

Schwartzhund Lager
Hounds Breath Ale
Tree Slammin' IPA
7 Point Porter(named in honor of the 7 point buck that I got this year that will be adorning the wall behind the bar..complete with mugs hanging off the antlers)

My bar will also feature a stuffed raccoon bolted to bar top holding a bottle opener. I know that I am sick and twisted, but I have yet to meet a home brewer that did not laugh when I told them about my plan.
