I just returned from my annual golfing trip from HHI and boy was I disappointed in the beer selection. After SC popped the cap last year, I expected to see an influx of more interesting beers this year. Add to this fact that Victory now distributes here, I was expecting at least Victory on tap.

None of the places I checked had anything really new on tap to me from previous years. The Mellow Mushroom had several higher abv beers available in bottles like Duvel, Chimay, Golden Monkey, Hop Devil and a few others. Unfortunately the prices were 50% higher than I am used to spending.

I'm not sure where all this ranting is going, but I guess it still shows that mainstream BMC products still dominate the market and that most businesses are content with the bottom line.

What about Hilton Head Brewing Company? Have they taken advantage of the ability to brew bigger beers?

It's been quite a long time since I last visited Hilton Head Brewing. Are they still around? I sold the T-shirt on Ebay a year or two ago.

I don't know, but they are still listed on www.beermapping.com

Hilton Head Brewing has nothing in common with any good brewpub I have ever seen. There beer is mediocre at best and from speaking with the locals is a place to avoid at night. I probably should restate that. If I were 22 years old and into drunken partying it would probably be fine, but it would have nothing to do with their beer. It's a shame, they have a nice location and decent equipment. Someone should be able to make a go of it.

I haven't tried Hilton Head but I very small brewery nearby, Azalea Coast in Wilmington, NC knocked my socks off last time I was at the Charlotte Oktoberfest
