This was taken from a post on another board I frequent. I found it interesting.
Taken from the Publican website, the following should perhaps not be taken
as a sign of things to come (allowing for journalistic licence & spin), but
it does follow the lines of early announcements from the likes of Macs &
Brakspears et al, so is worth forwarding on...
The article as published at www.thepublican.com...
Young's ponders future of historic Ram Brewery
Published 27th November 2003
Youngs has entered into talks with Wandsworth Council that could lead to a
sale of the historic Ram Brewery.
Wandsworth town centre has been earmarked for urgent regeneration and
director Patrick Dardis said the company had an obligation to listen to any
proposals.
He said: This may lead to something, it may lead to nothing. The brewery
site has prohibited any town centre re-development to date.
"The Mayor's office has identified Wandsworth as an area which needs major
development, especially in terms of building roads that can deal with the
volumes of traffic.
"Whatever happens we intend to remain vertically integrated and remain in
the borough of Wandsworth.
As well as beer production The Ram Brewery hosts Young's head office, sales,
administration and distribution operations.
In a statement, Young's said that no decision had yet been taken. It said:
"Brewing is an important part of Young's business, as is our role and
position within the local community. It is our intention that any relocation
of the Ram Brewery should be within the borough of Wandsworth.
"We are not short-term property speculators - we are looking to deliver
value to our shareholders for years into the future."
