I plan on brewing a kit I bought about 5 months ago from AHB.
I've since replaced the hops (left them outside by mistake), but I'm not sure what I should do about the Oatmeal that came with the pack. It's still in the sealed plastic bag. Should it still be good? Or do I need to get some more...and If I do, what kind should I get?
Has anyone ever heard of McCain Slow cooking oats? Will these work, and is there a special method to using them?
On a side note...Happy Turkey Day to everyone.

I would think that if they're still sealed in thier bag that they will be just fine. We have opened containers of oatmeal sit much longer than that and it tastes just fine....
If it were to sit open for more than a month or so, I would probably think about replacing it.
Oatmeal is used more for the creamy character it gives the beer, not really for any particular flavor.
Regular grains after being crushed should be kept tightly sealed right up to the point of use.
Oatmeal stout is one of my favorites.....

The Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout clone from Clone Brews is excellent. If you don't have access to the book, let me know and I'll post.

Grape and Granary ( grapeandgranary.com ) has a great Sam Smith clone "kit" with over 2lbs of specialty grains in it and all DME, no LME. I choice the Wyeast 1084 to go with it
