This bill will be coming up for vote in the NYS Senate. It has passed the Assembly.
This bill would allow small breweries to terminate their contracts with distributors with more ease and less expense. Right now, it is difficult if not impossible for the smaller brewers to change distributors and very costly.
Years ago, to protect distributors from big brewers leaving them after spending time building business, a law was passed to make it hard for the breweries to cancel agreements with distributors. Now, that law makes it easy for a distributor to hold a small brewery hostage and limit their opportunity for market exposure.
This bill would allow a brewery that is a certain small percentage of the distributors business to cancel the contract and a distributor better suited for their needs.
I wrote my Senator and he is going to vote yes. I ask all you other NYers to do the same.
