View Full Version : Champions League Final
I just finished watching Manchester United and Chelsea at a local irish pub. Almost everyone had a Bass or guiness in their hand. I chose to stick with Old Dominion's summer wheat after starting off with a skunky, sour tasting bass. Other then a lack of quality football, the match provided great drama and storylines. Any opinions on the match or am I the only fan of the beautiful game to visit realbeer.com?

Ask locals Meridian and Theakston. Both are fans and I know Meridian regularly goes to DC United games

We have a 11 visitors from Manchester/Liverpool area in town this week. All they wanted to know is: 1) Where can we get good beer and is coors good? 2) What channel will they broadcast the football game?
Well of course we had to say that even here in Denver, we only water the plants with Coors! They checked the hotel and a number of local bars around the area and were fill both desires at one time.

Maybe this is my beer snobbery coming out but I saw someone drinking Coors Light out of a bottle in a BREWPUB!!!! I was amazed at the sight. Even the non-beer drinker I was with was in amazement.

It was a better game for partisans than the neutrals, even though the match ended up providing some drama. Man United owned the first half, Chelsea everything else really. Well until the spot kicks.
Someone's gotta work out a chant about John Terry's boots.
I'm typing a bit slow today as I got put down by the Hop Devil last evening.

Great first half (drinking Red and White from dogfish) really hit the spot. Second half switched to Victory hop (red) Devil (s). Not so much. Chelsea's goal was a bit of a fluke but they could have had a couple in the second half. But then Tevez could have made it 3-0 in the first half and I doubt they would have come back from that.
Not the best to win on Penalty shoot outs but quite dramatic.
Drogba is a disgrace.

Drogba is a disgrace.
He's equal measure stupid and pathetic.

i enjoyed watching as well meridian. the biggest concern for me was to see ballack choking again when it mattered(besides his penalty kick.) doesn´t bode well for team germany in the european cup.

He hasn't seemed to really fit in a Chesea.

no, but it looked like he was coming around. then just like in the 2002 final he couldnt get going.

I actually think he and Lampard really began working well together the last month or two of the season. Chelsea football is terrible to watch but you have to admit it's effective and I think Ballack had a lot to do with their run in the premiership. It will be interesting to see what happens if Lampard gets sold to Inter this summer.

I too enjoyed the game. I really wish they could do away with the stupid shootout to end it. I like the golden goal concept. Just keep playing until someone scores. All finals should end this way. It works for pointy football here in the states.

I think this is the best article I have read that summed up the penalty kicks.

I don't know who this writer is and can't judge him based on one piece, but WOW. What a pessimist. Granted Ronaldo and Anelka's penalties werent the best, had cech or van der sar guessed the other way, both were headed into the net. As for Terry, you can't doubt the man's greatness as a leader and worldclass all-around footballer just because of one penalty miss (this coming from one of the biggest Chelsea haters).
He even went so far as to bring Beckham's miss into the argument (the worst miss of all, indeed). I have never had a problem with Beckham and think he is due all the respect and accolades he has received. As a pure striker of the ball only juninho and riquelme have been on par over the last decade.

I took somthing different from the artical. The PK is an evil thing. It only shows the weakness, not the strength. As I said before a shootout is no way to end a final. Just keep playing until someone scores. The stronger team will come out eventually. Let them play until they are ready to drop. They are highly paid pros, not a bunch of eight year olds.
Well that I do agree with. Penalties are moronic
