So you may have already heard that Russian River is finally going to start bottling Pliny the Elder (and Blind Pig and Pliny the Younger!). The label text (http://drinkcraftbeer.com/the_news/latest_news/russian_river_pliny_the_elder_-_coming_soon.html)is interesting. Im thinking they dont want you to save it...
Respect your Elder: Keep cold, drink fresh, do not age! Pliny the Elder is a historical figure, don't make the beer inside this bottle one! Not a barley wine, do not age! Age your cheese, not your Pliny! Respect hops, consume fresh! If you must, sit on eggs, not on Pliny. Do not save for a rainy day! Pliny is for savoring, not for saving! Consume Pliny fresh, or not at all! Does not improve with age! Hoppy beers are not meant to be aged! Keep away from heat!
Im assuming bottle distribution will basically only be on the west coast still although Im sure itll be a lot easier to obtain some now (no more underground growler swaps and keg bottling adventures). Although part of me actually wants it to remain unbottled for the rarity of it if nothing else. Whenever anything I really love becomes easier for me to get theres always a kind of psychological diminishment for that product that I cant seem to help. Hearing of a place once or twice a year that had a keg of Pliny was like hearing about spotting a leprechaun. You rushed out and tried to get there before it disappeared. Now it wont be as big of a deal.
