hi all.
great site. lots of info

I'm relatively new at this. I was wondering about drinking HB from the bottle.

Let me explain.
We normally bring a couple of beers to the football at the weekends, which are consumed on the way, and outside the ground.

This week, I was hoping to bring some HB to see what the guys think.
Has anyone ever transferred from one bottle to another, leaving the sediment behind, to keep it clearer when drinking from the bottle?

or does this make no sense what-so-ever?

cheers
noby.

Noby, it makes perfect sense. if you really want to do this, get both the beer and the receiving bottle as cold as possible. Clsoe to freezing temps, even, to minimize foaming. This works for the short term, I'd do it the morning you go to the game. There will be some carbonation loss, but drinking it quickly (and by drinking it quickly, I mean within a day or two, not with a beer bong :D )will help minimize it...

I'd just bring cups along to pour into, seems like too much work to transfer...

Cheers Danno

It's nice to know I can do it, but you're right, I mightn't bother, and just bring some cups.

I second the idea of acrylic cups (NOT Styrofoam!). All that hard work you went through to make the beer, and you can't even see it or smell it when you're enjoying it.... you know? Seems like such a waste...

Welcome aboard, noby! The more the merrier!

I tailgate quite often, and most of the time, they frown upon people carrying bottles or glass cups around. I always transfer to a well washed disposable cup.

just an fyi: the tap-a-draft (sheesh, i should get a commission!) is excellent for tailgating and picnics and making an insulating sleeve for it is trivial.

Welcome, noby!

All good ideas in the replies so far. I can't add anything to it.

B3s nailed it...if you're taligating it the Tap-A-Draft or Party pigs are second to none....
Pouring into a cup works perfectly well too!!

Hey Noby are you talking about the smash 'em up, chew 'em up and spit 'em out type of American football? Or the let's run around like sissies and kick each other in the knees type of foot ball that is known as Soccer here in the USA?:D J/K noby!!! I am still curious tho do you have tail gate parties at soccer games? Rugby?

Havent received it yet {back order on the co2} but im sure lookin forward to the first minimash minikeg batch i do maybe the Irish Ale i got from gunnut??

just good old fashioned 'sissy soccer', Gunnut. (he says , while trying not to rise to the bait). Although it's last day of the season on Sunday.

When we want smash 'em up, chew 'em up & spit 'em out in Ireland we go to Hurling matches. Now that's not for sissies!

As for tail-gate parties, never heard of it 'til I read it on this thread.
We take a couple of beers for the journey, and have a few more outside the ground, and maybe something for the way home, depending on the result.

Maybe for spring I'll be more organised with a tap-a-draft or something.

Hurling? Hey, we used to play that as teenagers....
Slam 20 or 30 beers, a box of donuts and anything else you can get in your mouth...shake well....and hurl away.....

Ahhhh....the good old days...(shudder..)

lol@paul

different kind of hurling: http://www.tompgalvin.com/features/hurling.htm

closest thing we've got in the states is la crosse, smeer the queer, and (my childhood favorite) tackle basketball on gravel courts.

I've seen hurling before on the sports network. I think there are two objectives in the game. 1. To put the ball into the net. 2. To cause a fascinating injury to anyone on the other team.:D

bigmf, from what i've seen of hurling, i think you got the order of precedence wrong ;)

Seeing the link on hurling really made me wish I was still in England. I felt like I really fit in with the community. I played for my village football team, and after the match both teams would cram into the pub for sandwiches and a couple of pints. I would have stayed forever if I was able.

smeer the queer

That's not politically correct any more...
The new name is "Kill the guy with the ball"
That was one of my absolute favorite games as a kid....

If I were to play that game now....I would be in the hospital for a month.

Hey Old Hooky, is that for Hook Norton?

Yeah. Old Hooky is their old/strong version of Hook Norton Bitter.
