In the heart of the Brisbane Central Business District on Albert Street, The Brewhouse (http://www.thebrewhouse.com.au/content.asp) is giving it a go.

As far as Australia's bigger cities go, Brisbane is a sort of 'beer hell'. You'll find decent pubs in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth, but most pubs in and around Brisbane seem to serve up only a combination of the usual suspects from the 'big three' ... Carlton-United (now called Fosters Group), Lion Nathan, or Castlemaine Perkins, with the still independent Cooper's putting in a reasonable showing. You might find a tap of James Squire in places, but as far as microbrews go, its slim pickings. The Brewhouse's beer may not be great, but they're good, and here in this city, good is good enough, and I'm all for someone willing to put themselves out there in an attempt to break into this mega-swill lager market.

So if you're in Brisbane, stop in and have a pint, or at least a pot of their brew!

Edit

These guys do brew GOOD beer. love their Engine Pale, Up Your Kilt Scottish ale, and the 4th Reich Schwarzbier! Not to mention their guest tap! Right now they have Mount Tamborine Bitter which is quite a good brew!

Its been a few months since I've updated this .... one of the top spots to drink in brisbane. The other is the Grand Central Platform bar, but they're only open on weekdays from noon to ten.Still.... good selection of beer!

The Taffinator Dopplebock ... a 7.2% pot of easy-drinking enjoyment!
