Anyone try this yet? It's a new Belgian style "quadrupel" from Ommegang. Blind Tiger in NYC was hosting an Ommegang event on Wednesday. By the time I got there they had no more on tap, but an Ommegang employee scored me a bottle. Knowing it was 9.8%abv I didn't think I would have been able to finish it or I would have bought my own. I'm glad he did. This beer is quite possibly the best I've ever had. I'll have to drink it again to find out, but I've been thinking about it ever since that night. It's amazing. And I did finish the bottle, less a glass that my friend had. She didn't care for it very much. (In fact she went in wanting a corona but i'm pretty sure they don't serve corona. i got her a brooklyn hefeweizen instead and she liked it a lot. one corona drinker brought over to the good side!) i am going to be drinking this beer again as soon as i can get my hands on some. i recommend it highly.

also recently i've had allagash white, corsendonk brown, southampton 80 shilling scottish ale, bear republic hop rod rye, and southampton pale ale (cask conditioned) all were very very good. and on top of it all, i've found a bar where i can go to try amazing new (to me) beers. woohoo!

Actually, the Three Philosophers isn't "new" per se. It was the result of a sort of "dream beer" contest held here on Realbeer.com a while back. Ommegang created it by blending their Ommegang Abbey and 2% Lindeman's Kriek (both pasteurized before so). It was only available at the brewery during it's first run but got new packaging and publicity recently as Ommegang readies it for greater distribution. Boston's Anam Cara just held the re-release party last night with good results (or so I've heard). I hope to find some of this in Massachusetts in the near future. I've heard time in the cellar brings out some interesting flavors.

Cheers!

ah yes. i wasn't sure entirely about the origins of this beer, but i knew some of it. i knew that it was due to the contest. i knew it was a blend of two beers, and i knew one of them was lindemans kriek. i didn't knwo the other was their ommegang abbey. regardless of how it's made, it is very good. i was told it should be available soon in the ny area, so i don't see it taking any longer to hit boston.
