after the 120min IPA and the old crustacean (see my other posts)(as if that weren't enough -- hey it was saturday night!) i moved on to a side by side tasting of latrobe's loyalhanna and yuengling.

loyalhanna seemed a little thinner than yuengling, and maybe a little lighter in color. it didn't have quite the carmel-like sweetness of yuengling, but that could be a good thing depending on your mood. they were priced equally at about $16-something/case. all in all, i'm a tried and true yuengling guy. the first time i ever got drunk off beer in highschool, it was with yuengling. while yuengling is no longer anywhere near my top choice of beer since my "enlightenment," its still one of my favorite fallback beers. loyalhanna will not change that. out of 5 stars, i'd give yuengling maybe 2.5, and loyalhanna 2.

then, for good measure a had a few sips of my buddy's chocolate stout from rogue. very chocolatey, very thick. only had a sip or 2, but, man, i'll be gettin me some o' that soon!

then, with monday night football, i had a brooklyn's imperial chocolate stout. at 8.5%ABV, this one is a big old stout! just the right amount of sharp, clean bitterness followed by a little roasty/toasty flavor, then the chocolate hits you, followed by a bit of a coffee aftertaste with a slight alcohol warmth on the way down. very well balance and a completely enjoyable beer! a good cold-winter-night-chillin kinda beer!
