I am in the process of building a new brewing system and have tossed my old cooler mash tun for a keg based one. I am still in the design stage and had a few questions. I plan on mounting the valve on the bottom of the keg (axially) and using a quaility false bottom with no siphon hole in it. I have tried a few SS false bottoms in my Gott cooler in the past and hated them. I almost always got a stuck mash (then again they where always very large grain bills, but thats all I brew :) ). I have always used a Bazooka screen and just batch sparged.

With the new keg based mashtun I like the simplicity of a bottom mounted valve with a false bottom above. I plan on making this a HERMS system too so fly sparging will be in my future.

Has anyone had any experience with the SABCO false bottoms? Everything they make seems to be of good quaility. They are not cheap >$80 but I dont mind spending the dool if it works well.

I brew on a Sabco Brew Magic and have not had a problem with either of the Sabco false bottoms that I have. I do have the half folding ones to get around the thermometer probes though.

The hinged one was the one I was thinking of buying.

I say buy it up, I have never had an issue with mine. Nor have I heard any complaints on the Brew Magic owners forum.
