just cracked open my first bottle of anderson valley brewing winter solstice seasonal ale....WOW!
ok, i now know why the guy at the paint store said this was his favorite seasonal! i pulled 2 from the six-pack and put in the cellar immediately.
the ale has an excellent hop nose. the beer has a nice, deep amber color and an excellent deep malty taste. there is an excellent hoppy tickle on the tongue when drinking...yet the aftertaste is very sweet....very sweet. the aftertaste, at least to me, is reminiscent of a rootbeer (or, more accurately, birch beer). the beer goes down very smooth and creamy.
yet another excellent winter warmer...gonna have to stretch this one out...$12 for a six pack, this isn't a session beer on cost alone!
i think this would be an excellent after dinner beer or desert beer....very warm, very malty, very sweet.
