Apologies if this has been covered before (I couldn't find a thread on the search), but I was wondering which brands of beers people like to age. So far my list is:

Gulden Draak
Fuller’s Vintage Ale
Hoegaarden Grand Cru
Morland Hen’s Tooth
Gale’s Prize Old Ale
Lee’s Harvest Ale
La Trappe Quad

and I understand that many very strong beers can be aged (especially belgian ones). I am currently thinking of tryig to build up some beers to age for 10 years or so (this way I'll still be young when I can drink them, even if I don't really have a disposable income at the moment).

Cellaring beer is all hit or miss. There is no scientific timetable. Granted, some styles age better than others on average but there are no guarantees. As some rules of thumb, I age beers like:

-Barleywines (Bigfoot, Old Guardian, Newport Storm '00)
-Highly hopped beers (though I always drink fresh samples, too)
-Any beer over 7-8% abv might age well (no guarantees)
-Bottle conditioned beers - esp. Belgian styles

If you find a beer you really like, spend a few extra bucks to put some away for a while. It might spoil or have the bottom fall out of the taste. Then again, it might be the best thing that ever passed your lips. Cellaring beer is one of the best things about getting into better beer, imo.

Cheers!

Thanks; I hadn't thought about highly hopped beers, oddly.
