I will try to make this beer related. I just got back from the ER because my wife and i did not know my 4 yr old had become strong enough to topple our 27",100 lbs or so, TV off it's stand on top of him. He took a serious blow to head but is all right.
My point being, you can't be too careful with little ones around. They should not be near our brew areas for many obvious reasons. Also take time to fasten things like TVs down so they can't be pulld off or shake off onto a little one.
Sorry for this post, but sometimes we need to stop and remind ourselves that we can not take safety for granted.

Holy crap!
That was the first words to come to mind when I read your post.
I'm glad that things turned out "okay". I have 5 kids and hate it when anything happens to them.
You're quite right to point out the hazards that the brewing environment contains. A carboy full of beer is damn heavy, even to me. So is a case of beer high up on the shelf in the basement.
I hope that everything continues to be okay. I'm sorry, I feel for you and your child.

Yike. I wouldn't want a 27" TV falling on me, let alone a 4 year old! I hope all is better and well.

It's scary sometimes - the things kids are able to do. Hope your son is okay :)

My wife and I thank you for qall your kind words. He is fine this morning. He must have gotten a goalies head from me. I am going to take today and fasten that TV so it can't fall again. I am leaving for the hardware store.

On the analytical side, if "a pint is a pound the world around," and there's 5 gallons of brew in a carboy, that's 80 pounds, plus the weight of the carboy and the fact that what's inside of it is a little denser than water makes it - yep - right around 100 pounds.
I worry about my cats pulling my bucket off the stand it's on...
Hope all is still okay, wcg.

It's not, you know. Only the world known as the USA.
In countries that still use Imperial measures a pint is rather more than a pound. An Imperial gallon of water weighs ten pounds, not eight.

Hey... my world is FLAT, ok? ;)
Point well taken, even though it's a point made previously. Thanks!

Doh !! I am happy he is doing ok. Sounds like he has a hard head. Teach him how to play football >:P~ This is a good post even if it's not beer related. Sometimes it's good for us to remind each other about the things that are really important in our lives and home safety (to include adults and pets as well as children) is certainly a good reminder.
