All, no replies yet in Bottling forum,...thought I would try here
Was looking at pickig up a few 2 liter growlers with the Grolsch type hinged gasket caps.
My question is can I condition in these as I would a bottle?
I like the idea of fewer bottles and the ability to pull out a growler when friends come by etc...
Are they "air tight" so that I can carbonate and condition in them as well?
thanks much
Joe

Yes, swing top bottles are the most used bottles among German home brewers.
The advantage you have with swing tops, easy to release CO2 pressure in case of over priming.

i would use the exact amt of priming sugar and not over-carbonate. I don't want to open one up after say 4-6 weeks in the growler and it be flat. But yet I like the convenience of a few growlers to go with regular 22oz bottles and the Party Pig I have
thx

In case you ever run into trouble here is a very common tool used by German homebrewers. Only one required.

absolutly. When i started brewing again (after a long hiatus) i vowed to only bottle into larger containers. (until i kegged) I have bottle conditioned a bunch of batches in 33 oz. swing top bottles with great successs. I currently have a Belgian Golden Strong Ale in some of the very same swing top's. Good luck with your beer. Peace,Chris
