This is a very nicely malty American IPA, far more balanced that most examples in that style. It hides its 6.5% ABV very well. It's too bad Boulder claims it's a British-stlye ale. The malt flavor is more like a German Marzen, and I doubt that those citrusy hops grew anywhere east of the Rockies, much less east of the Atlantic. I poured it and got a snootful of lemon and thought WTF? Did they get the wrong label on the bottle? This is a commercial example of violating the homebrew competition rule that you enter a beer in the category it came out as, not as what you might have intended it to be. Is this the beginning of the interesting side effects of the hop shortage?
