Pours a deep amber/brown with ruby highlights. Carmel nose with a hint of fruit and oxidation (port like) and the alcohol coming through as almost an afterthought.

Clear malt character with an underlying nutty/wood flavor (hazelnut?) with a hint of a smoky finish. The nutty lingers for a second after the sip covering the tounge with a pleasing flavor. Some oxidative notes shine through (I was able to age this) and add complexity to this beer. Hops are there but they do not overwhelm this beer. Lots of carmel throughout the flavor profile.

The nutty flavor turns to a dry finish which is suprising for the body this beer has and rounds it out well.

The alcohol is cleverly hidden in this beer and does not hinder the flavor or aroma.

Overall this is a very good example of an Old Ale.

Ray, this is an excellent beer. I am glad I had the chance to age this one. The bottle was crystal clear when I removed it from the cellar and was able to decant almost the entire bottle (1/8" left behind) with no problem. Please, whatever you are doing with this one keep it up!

Thanks for the trade BTW. :D

Damn....thanks loads, Brewmonkey!!!! I am truly honored that you think so highly of my brew!! I can't remember, but did I also send you one of my Belgian Strong Darks??

Anyone interested in the recipe, I would be more than happy to divulge. Brewmonkey, I'm not sure if you know this, but the Old Ale was going on 1 1/2 years old when you consumed it.

Thanks again!!!

Drink hearty!!! Up the irons!!!

Ray
