Adding a ball valve to your brewpot

Is there anything special about doing this? Can I get a valve at Home Depot and drill a hole? What am I missing?

Either a locknut and a hi-temp food grade o-ring for a weldless fitting, or a 1/2 SS coupling for a welded fitting. Plus a nipple in either case.

You can't find the locknut, o-ring, or SS coupling at HD, but you can order them from www.mcmaster.com - I use a brass locknut and a silicon o-ring.

For my "welded" fittings I just used sta-brite silver solder and a propane torch. I prefer the welded fittings over the weldless as they're less fussy.
