Below is an inventory of my beer fridge as of this evening. It does not include any beer that I have cellared. The first colum is the name. The second is the number I have in stock. Third is the country or state. I made this inventory as I am involved in some trades and needed to know just exactly what I had.

I olny put the beer in my fridge that I'm going to drink within the next few days. Or beer that I've bought at the store.
I currently have a sixer of Guiness Extra Stout, a six or Sierra Nevada Stout, six Pyramid Hefeweizen, and one Uinta #9 barleywine.
I have about 15 cases of my homebrewed beer in the basement in 10 or so different types.
If I am going to make a new style of beer, I'll buy whatever I can find in the style to get a feel for it. I seem to be going on a Stout and Porter kick lately.

I live in Nashville, TN. But I GREW UP in Loveland! I hope you're a Pizza Casbah fan - it's the only place in Ft. C where you can get REAL NY pizza if you ask me. Odell's 90 Shilling is one of the finest brews on the planet. Not much out here in TN for good local beer....
BTW, we discussed the Lions and the Broncos and the Seahawks in another thread... remember?
Beaver

Yep. my bad!
I've never heard of Pizza Casbah. Where's it at? Are you sure it's still around?
fretlessman71
11-15-2003, 12:24 PM
Oh, you BET I am! The Casbah is near the corner of College and Laurel - between Coldstone Creamery and the barber shop, west of the intersection, on the north side of the street. Right near the alleyway. Little hole in the wall; GREAT pie!
I just might have to have you send me some CO beer in trade for something else. Anything you're dying to try and just haven't been able to find?
Beaver
11-15-2003, 04:59 PM
The Casbah sounds like Big City Burrito. If their pizza is half as good as Big City's burritos, I'll be very impressed. I'll have to try it sometime.
I do miss Bell's Beer, but I'm not sure how far they distribute.

Hmmm.....I'm a rookie. The only beer in my fridge is a six of Flying Dog Road Dog Scottish porter, a six pack of Harp Lager and a four pack of Stewart's Root Beer. In fact I think The Stewart's is a better beer than this Road Dog Porter. : /

Flying Dog's Pale Ale is much better than their porter... I don't care for the extra smoky character of scottish porters in the first place. Give their other ones a try - the In Heat Wheat's pretty good too.

Yeah I have had the Road Dog before and remebered I wasn't crazy about it, but I couldn't specifically remember why.......
I have had some of the other Flying Dog brews but don't particularly remember the PA or wheat either. The Road Dog got a bit better than my review (only a bit though) on my second one as I let it get pretty.... warm basically, maybe to about 65 deg. (my best guess) and I could taste more of the subtelties, but it was also at the limit I could drink it temperature wise and enjoy it.
I do like pale ales, so I might just give that one a try. I don't care too much for the lighter hefeweizens in general, but some of the hoppier ones are decent. Some of the dark ones are very good though.

I only keep in my fridge 4 or 5 beers at a time, to save space and to keep my wife from killing me! (Kidding - she's an avid beer fan as well. That's why I married her!) The rest of my beers I keep in the cellar. Here's what I've got that I keep on my list. I keep an Excel file with all my cellared beers, so I can find them easier. (anyone else do that, or am I the biggest nerd here?) I have others as well, right now I have various styles of Bell's and New Glarus for trading and several other beers I've acquired in recent trades. I'm willing to trade anything (well, almost anything!) I have more than 3 of, so if someone wants to trade, give me a shout!

Oh yeah.... Stewart's is pretty good stuff, too!
just added anderson valley winter solstice seasonal ale (3 in fridge, 1 in stomach, 2 in cellar), anchor liberty ale (1 in stomach, 5 in fridge), and more SNCA (4 in fridge, 2 in cellar).

I actually purchased 5 cases...sat in the car for about 10 minutes thinking about it, then went back in and bought the rest (5 more).
The girl though i was nuts...the guy behind me in line thought I was a GOD. Fortunatly for him I decided to leave the only case left in the cold box.
3 cases down...7 to go.

Where? In Pennsylvania, I assume? Wow, $8 a case for Stoudt's is not only a nice score, it's cheating the man!

yes bought it in PA. It's usually between $23-$26...but they were unloading a bunch of stock. This distributor has a fair selection of beer, but the clientle is your basic coor lite, ice beer crowd. Not too many people drinking craft brews. So I assume they had a problem getting rid of it (despite the story the young girl behind the counter told me about how Stoudt's was going out of business)
It was laughable when I was questioning them about the quality of the beer. Of course, at $8.00 a case I was skeptical...one girl held a bottle to the light and said, "It's good, there's no floaties..."
(which reminds me to ask, What sediment might fall out of the beer when it's old....someone mentioned this earlier or in another post about an old Guiness 6pack they were given)
I should go back and see what else they're getting rid of.

Yeah... think of the trades you could make here with all of that! You could spread the wealth and get some really interesting stuff in return - stuff you can't get in PA, you know? Just a thought...

Since this is my first post I wanted to first say "hello" to everyone. Right now I have been holding onto some Liefmans Goudenband as well as a few bottles of Cantllon Rose. both are really good but the I really have to stop myself from drinking the Cantillon every night. Victory Storm King is hanging around somewhere and I just got my hands on Brooklyn's Chocolate Stout (first time I had seen it around in a while.) Although I am not a big fan I have a growler of Post Road Pumpkin Ale whenever I am thirsty.

I'm still proud though. My beer fridge is one of those little 4 cubic feet numbers, and it is jam packed:
Bridgeport IPA - 3 OR
Brugse Straffe Hendrik - Big 1 Belgium
Cantillon Rose de Gambrinus - Big 1 Belgium
Chimay Grand Reserve - Big 2 Belgium
Deschutes Double Bale Quail Imperial IPA - 1 OR
Great Lakes Brewing Edmund Fitzgerald Porter - 4 OH
Kasteel Donker Vintage 1989 - Big 2 Belgium
Lagunitas Maximus - Big 1 CA
Rodenback Grand Cru - 2 Belgium
Samuel Adams Triple Bock - 1 US
Spaten Octoberfest - 1 Germany
Stone Vertical Epic 03-03-03 - Big 1 CA
Westvleteren 12 - 14 Belgium
Westvleteren 8 - 4 Belgium
Westvleteren Blond - 3 Belgium
Young's Double Chocolate Stout - 1 GB
In addition, I have a kegerator that currently has a keg of Stone Arrogant Bastard.
I have to update my inventory. I just got back from CLeveland, so I added a case of beer for the Great Lakes Brewing Company. I added 12 Edmund Fitzgerald Porters, 6 Elliot Ness Vienna Lagers, and 6 Burning River Pale Ales.
Also, my Wife's cousin just showed up from Amsterdam, and he brought me 2 Westamalle Dubbel, 2 Rodenbach Grand Cru, 2 Triple Karmeliet, and 2 Gouden Carolus Grand Reserve.
Now there is absolutely no more room in the fridge. I guess I better drink some beer.

I don't have a beer fridge...I like my beer warm...I think it tastes better that way! I keep only what I can drink in 2-3 weeks on hand and right now I have a VERY DRY Honey Ale that I am choking down...failed experiment or wrong yeast? I don't know.

I just went to Best Buy last night and drooled over the beer fridge that I have been wanting for about a year now. It wouldn't replace the one that I have now, but would suplement it. The price dropped to $259, so I'm really tempted. It has controlled temperature settings for anywhere between 45 and 65 degrees. Since I don't have a ceelar, this fridge looks like the next best thing.
I need more space. I might have to pick it up.
Now I just have to convince the wife...

i have a beer fridge too, not sure where its at on temp (my wife lost my i.r. thermometer....damn her!) but i use it to cellar beers sence it's best to keep them at cooler temps. hopefully next year or so, im going to buy a bigger house then the one we live in now and build me a walk in beer fridge!!!! i could do everything myself so i don't thik it would be that expensive, maybe 6'X4' would be good.

I noticed a few of you seem to be cellaring a few of the winter type beers like SN celebration and Sam smiths. How do these beers fair over time?
fretlessman71

Generally high hop content and high alcohol content means natural preservative... that's what I'm gathering. Right now I'm stuck "cellaring" beers in the back of the fridge because it's too warm inside, the temp. fluctuates too much outside, and I have nowhere else to do it. I've heard that if it's TOO cold the beers won't "age" (I'd love to be corrected on this), but at least they won't spoil.
Hopjack, if you build one, you ought to post the schematics here so we can do the same... whaddya think?

absolutely alcohol and hops are the determining factor. The thing that has me puzzled is SNCA and sam smiths winter welcome are both under 7% abv. I was always thinking that around 8 was a good place to start for cellaring beers and even with 8% you dont want to let those go too long. Perhaps I am mistaken.
