recently pu started a new billboard advertising campaign around here. i saw the first one the other day. it obviously would never be allowed in the states.
itīs a picture of a bottle of pu. next to the bottle it says "without lemon, without cranberries, without bull§hit." unedited of course.
itīs a sort of attack on the 18-25 year olds here who have turned theyīre backs on traditional beer and only drink concoctions of half beer half fruit juice.
hope they continue to be creative and hope to post a pic of it soon.

Nice. Had a can last night, as a matter of fact -- no lemon, no fruit, no BS.

Do they drink that god-awful soda & beer mix in Berlin? Whoever invented that should be beaten with sticks.

Which one, the Radler or the Diesel? The Radler (beer with 7-Upish soda) isn't bad for one beer, but the Diesel (Beer and Coke) just isn't right!
There's also the Berliner Weiß, where tradition is to mix the very light, very lactic beer with Raspberry sauce or Woodruff sauce.
Thing is, all of those concoctions have been around a long time, not exactly a "new" invention by the youngsters. Now that cranberry craziness is wrong too!

Beer and coke.
Shandy-type concoctions I can accept, but the coke mixture was horrid.

I saw a woman making the mix across a Bierhall in Würzburg some years ago, the look on my face must have been pretty crazy because the woman just laaaaughed! I agree, yech.

I liked Schultes Berliner Weiss with the raspberry syrup. I remember getting a case back in the late 70s and serving it to Thanksgiving guests at my family's house. I've had it since a couple of times. Berliner Weiss by itself is spritzy and quenching. A fine summer brew.
I have stated before in other threads that the beer / fruit concoctions like Hop "n" Gator and Pink Champale were awful. Some Australians who were visiting once told me it was popular there to drink Shandy in the morning.

yeah the diesel is pretty popular here.
the biggest culprits of this garbage are bitburger and warsteiner.
as far as radler is concerned i dont much care for it at all. but itīs apparently a "originated in berlin" thing, so its pretty popular here too.
i donīt know if you have ever had the chance, but, you should try berliner weisse without syrup, it tastes better without in my opinion.

Uh, somebody's pullin' your leg -- or those Berliners are becoming even more snobby (or do the quotes denote a grain of salt?)!

The northern Germans, not to be outdone by their Bavarian cohorts, came up with their own version of the Radlermass, but, of course, they had to change the name. They called it Alsterwasser ("Alster water," so-named after the little Alster River that flows through the center of Hamburg and empties into the Elbe River)

I actually have tried it all three ways to see which I'd like best (also had it as a mamosa of sorts, with OJ), and I agree -- I like the unadulterated version best.

I can't find it in cans here. It would be a great kayak beer if I could.

Hmm. I've been buying singles at the Jewel, of all places. I'm surprised you can't find it. They're in 4 packs similar to the Guinness Pub Draught cans too.

I've even asked at a couple of paint stores here and have been told they can't get it in cans from the distributor.

I have one can left in my fridge. It doesn't seem as good as the bottles.

In what way? I didn't find a difference, maybe even found it better because I didn't anticipate a possible skunking.
Hooky -- get ahold of your Miller distro, I haven't heard anything about this new packaging being regional.

That's why I bought it, but it seemed "tinny" to me. Maybe it's just psychological. Also, the hop flavor seemed more subdued.
No, I wasn't drinking it straight out of the can.

Yeah, I think the "tinniness" was mostly psychological -- do you drink Guinness Pub Draught cans or any tap beers? Do they seem "tinny" to you? It would be a similar concept. It's been discussed before, metal cans will impart no flavor to beverages these days.
I know what you're saying about the hop flavor seeming subdued, but I think that's because it has had no light pollution whatsoever. If you've ever had Urquell on tap, you'd notice the same -- the flavor tastes more balanced -- smoother, and I honestly credit that to light protection.

Yep, that's the only way I drink Guinness anymore. And Bud, for that matter. And you're right, I detect no such flavor in those.
