I started doing a serious inventory of my beer fridge because I am working on a few trades and I figured I should see what I have in there right now. I intend to publish it here in a new thread entitled "What Do You Have in Your Beer Fridge" later. Anyway, I came across a Smuttynose Pumpkin and wanted to give my impressions. The beer poured with a loose head that dissappated quickly. It is a cloudy copper, color. The aroma is spicy and typical of most pumpkin beers that I have tasted. Quite pleasant. There is a lot of hops right up front upon tasting and a lingering spicy, slightly peppery, and slightly tart taste left on the tongue. The spices are more prevalent in the nose than in the taste. A pleasant beer without the overbearing taste of pumpkin pie. I get more hops than anything else. There is a bit of the malt also which blends with the spices. I nice example not too overdone. Not as subtle as the Dogfish Punkin. I could drink maybe two before I would want to change to something else. This may be more hoppy than most pumpkin beers I have sampled before. It is enjoyable and pleasant.
