A local pizza place has an apricot ale on tap. I have never had a pint by itself, but they suggest pouring it into a black and tan with guinness. Has anybody else had this? It is really good, and I don't go much for fruit beers.

Anybody know who makes an apricot ale?

ive enjoyed two different apricot ales, even though im not usually into fruity beers. Pyramid and Dogfish Head both make easy drinking, tasty apricot ales that i find great as hot summer beers or sports-watching beers. as for making a black and tan out of it with guinness, well thats an interesting thought, tho it doesnt quite sound appealling to me. dont knock it till youve tried it tho i guess.

who makes this apricot?

I never liked eating the fruit but have drank Magic Hat #9 in the past, which is brewed with apricots. Not my favorite though it is a big seller for them.

I toured Wachusett Brewing in central Mass. over the summer and they had a poster for a Black & Blue. Their Blueberry Ale capped by what I suppose was Guinness - though any nitro porter/stout would suffice. I think many fruit beers lend themselves well to mixing. I believe it was discussed here about capping a lambic with stout - I've done Lindemans Framboise with Young's Double Chocolate Stout. Tasty!!

Cheers!

I'm not really sure who makes that apricot ale, I will check it out the next time I am there for some pizza, maybe this weekend.

I am not a huge fan of most American fruit beers either. (I love Lambics though). I have on occasion had interesting ones. (Bells). My most memorable American fruit beer was a Blueberry from Cambridge Brewing. This came to mind as I was posting on the Boston thread. There are a couple good Blueberry beers from Maine as well. I am intregued by the idea of mixing beers in general and mixing Fruit beers with stouts and porters in particular. I may have to experiment.

I don't usually go for the fruit beers either, but the apricot ales,
which tend to be based on a pale or ipa, get me. The hop bite complements
the sweet-n-sourness of the fruit...

DFH's Aprihop is definitely one of the best. I'm pretty sure it's an IPA.

I've also had the Magic Hat #9, which i think is pretty subtly apricotty(?),
and will drink it when I see it on tap.

Middle Ages makes an Apricot Ale that they also sell to the Dinosaur BBQ
(biker/barbeque joints in SYR and Rochchester) and it's labelled as ApeHanger.
Very nice!

I also think I had the Pyramid once, 5 or 6 years ago in Atlanta, but I can't comment
on it since it's been a while...

My wife loves Pyramids Apricot Ale. I don't mind it, especially on a hot summer day. Something I found that is great, is to marinate chicken breasts in a bottle of the apricot ale, then grill them and put a glaze of apricot jam/ale/lime juice on it....fantastic!
