Just in case you're in or around Prague this weekend, Vánoční pivní trhy 2007 (Christmas beer markets) takes place 14-16 December at the Výstaviště exhibition grounds.

Not all of the information has been released to date, but the bill will include tastings, seminars on food and beer pairings, a commemorative tasting glass from Sahm, as well as the release of Old Ale, a new Czech top-fermented brew with 8.2% ABV.

The highlights of the program are the various vánoční piva, or Christmas beers, generally brewed at 13° or more, arriving from breweries around the Czech Republic.

The hours are Friday 13-19h, Saturday and Sunday 10-19h. The entry fee is 25 Kč; the Sahm tasting glass is 50 Kč. You can find more about it at www.svetpiva.cz (in Czech).

Na zdraví,

Evan

Thanks for the early Christmas present!

This is great news. I'm definitely going and picking up a glass too!

Will try to post some pics and report some info for those who can't make it.

Thanks ER!

I always appreciated your work for The Prague Post. It was second to none and real.

Thanks! That Beer Culture column is actually what led me to write "Good Beer Guide Prague and the Czech Republic" for CAMRA. Actually, we're about to relaunch Beer Culture over at the Prague Monitor, again with the goal of spreading the word about Czech beer. We've now got more than 110 brewers with more than 500 absolutely outstanding brews here in the Czech lands, most of which remain completely unknown to people outside the country.

This weekend, it looks like around a dozen breweries and their winter specials will appear at the festival -- not a massive number, but still a great chance to try something in time with the season in one of the most beautiful cities in Europe.

Hope to see you there. Na zdraví,

Evan
