I was going to try to start making starters and I was curious to see what other people use to make their starters in. I know many people use erlenmeyer flasks but all I have is large mason jars.

I've made starters in wine bottles, plastic water bottles, beer bottles, flasks, you name it. If it can be sanitized and fitted with an airlock and stopper it will work. My first starters were made in mason jars with a hole drilled in the lid to stick the stopper in. When the lid started rusting I switched to wine bottles. Then I came across Mississippi Mud in quart bottles, and for a couple of years that's what I used until I got a good deal on some flasks.

Nerdlenmeyer flask, half-gallon growler.
Starters are so necessary... My beers got 100% better when I started making them.
