When I boil the water and put the sugar in, should I let it cool down to room temperature before mixing it with the beer? Or is it ok to pour in hot?

I mostly keg now, but when I bottled I would boil the water with 3/4 cup corn sugar then place it intlo the bottling bucket. Transfer on top of this. The 5 gallon of room temp beer will cool the sugar soloution (which is a cup to of liquid) quickly.

Yeah, Tom's right that small amount will be cooled almost instantly so don't bother. I add it boiling and never give it a second thought.
