So... who's an 'IT' guy?

I said no, but I've sold software and services in the IT field for 16 years. I just can't bring myself to admit it. :D

I am not an IT person, but I spend more than 50% of my time every day futzing with a computer somehow or another.

Heh... I married geo-scum. Costal and marine, to be precise. Sediment transport. Interesting stuff, really.

I voted "yes" - I used to be an IT guy, but I'm currently rehabilitating from this condition.

I said no but more on that after I ask a question of the thread originator. Why is is so important to know that you titled this thread"Gotta Ask"?

Now as to my no. If you ask my team mates, I am the IT guy. That means I have IT for after the game, beer that is.

Being an IT guy myself - it occured to me that many of the discussions sounded like they were coming from techies. It think it is the obsessing over details. ;)

Other than that - just curious. Though I probably should have broadened the catagory to a more general "technical" reference.

I'm not at all an IT type person, I'm also geo-scum, but I have to use computers and we have a love-hate relatinship. Luckily there are computer weinies out there that do love computers and help keep my companies stuff up and running.

Where I work, I'm not the IT critter, though I spend far too much time using a computer for design work and client communications. When I get home though, it seems I morph into an IT critter, or at least all the tech problems of whatever ilk (computer crashed, car won't start, faucet leaks, furniture squeaks, etc.) are mine to fix - for free.

used to work for a software company back in Ohio before I moved to Vegas. Out here, I am a NOC Engineer for a phone company. Since I still deal with T1's, T3's, Optical Fiber, switches, edge routers, VoIP, etc., I would say I'm in IT, even though technically I'm in telephony.

Network Engineer over here. I think this is my 11th year total in the industry? Worked all the way up from helpdesk. :)

Man, I've been wondering this same question. Far too many engineer types on here!

I'm The Mailman at work, i.e. the e-mail guy. I'm responsible for all things that get mail in and out of your mailbox, but not responsible for Outlook effing up :)

I've been dinking with computers since the Commodore 64 days and have done it all. Helpdesk, admin, design analyst, consultant, and now a Systems Engineer.

I'm not an IT guy, but I'm studying to be an electrical/computer engineer, I'm not 100% certain yet to be honest. This next term I'm working as an IT guy for a work term though.

When I first moved to where I am I was in mail operations, we used to say we were mailmen when out at the bars too. Acts as a good filter for $$$ women. I've since moved to other projects, but still in IT ops.
