Well, it's that time again. I'm heading off to deer camp, so I won't be lurking around here for a few weeks.
The good news is that my friend and his step son have expressed interest in trying some craft brews, and also in home brewing. They live really close to Founder's and Bell's, so I thought that I would offer them a nice selection of those beers, plus a couple from Great Lakes.
Hopefully I will get some converts and new brewers.
I was out there last week bow hunting, and I saw tons of deer, all within rifle range. That means I should have plenty of venison for those that make the Real Beer Canoe Trip!!
See you all in a couple of weeks.
Are you coming up north to my part of the woods?

Actually, I'm heading to the west side of the state this year. East of Muskeegon. Lots of big bucks.. Although I may make it over near Farwell to visit my cousin for Thanksgiving.

3 weeks of deer camp? You must have a nice vacation package... all the guys around here usually take one week - at best!
Good luck with the good-beer evangelism. Don't forget, 2 Hearted doesn't mix with .30-30!

Had venison for dinner last night. My B-I-L got a deer over the weekend. I'm not a hunter myself but I enjoy the fruits of others labors each year.
Good luck!

I also am not a hunter, mostly because I don't have time, not for any moral reasons. But I've been blessed to have friends who do hunt and their spouses hate game so we almost always have game meat in the freezer. My boss goes salmon fishing in Alaska and his wife won't even let him cook fish in the house so every year we end up with 25 or so pounds of wild salmon and as much halibut as we want..

I have some associates and clients that hunt and usually send me some of their booty. But no salmon though. You are lucky indeed. I love to fish but rarely have a chance to these days. I've never hunted and I'm not sure why. I don't have any strong feelings against it and I enjoy the food. Most of the guys I know that go out hunting never shoot anything and are really out just for the get away and comraderie. Kind of like camping I guess.

Wow. Her loss is your gain. Don't ever let her find out grilled salmon is the greatest thing this side of heaven. She ever finds out it can be cooked outside, you'll be out a lot of fish.

Rolled in friday night about 8:30pm. Would have posted sooner but I took my Mrs. out on a date(by the way, avoid "The Mist" at all cost...terrible movie).
The season didn't start off to well for me. I got a deer on opening morning, but that evening, I got into a bit of a row with my host, so I left his place the next morning.
After that, everything was cool and the gang. I went to my cousins place and we had a great time. The Edmund Fitzgerald porter and the Bell's Two-Hearted was really appreciated.
My deer was a HUGE doe. I processed it tonight and got about 100 pounds of venison.
I've still got another month to hunt around home, so hopefully there will be more deer.
