I got this from the sanitizing section.
(1) 1 oz bleach, 1 oz white vinegar, 5 gal. water- no rinse sanitizing for plastic, tubes. and glass
(2) anything that sanitizes stainless steel (pots, lids, and spoon).
(3) Everclear and sanitized cotton swabs for necks of carboys and necks of yeast starterflasks.
(4) Vodka for caps and air locks. Afterwards make bloody marys.

Does this do the job on everything? I am a beginner.
I really like this site.

I would stay away from bleach and don't waist Vodka. Try This (http://morebeer.com/view_product/16028/102376) It is pretty standard in the HB business.

I've used bleach, Iodophor and Starsan-I really prefer the starsan, but the bleach will work if it's really wells rinsed.

I use star san in my conical, but not in carboys. I know it doesn't hurt, its just the visual of all that foam.

The specific post is Bleach for Sanitizer by IndyTom on 10/29/2007. There were about 6 replies.

Doesn't the same company that makes Starsan make non-foaming
Saniclean that only requires a miniscule longer time.

Re: My post about bleach from the sanitizing section, that mixture was suggested by the man that invented StarSan. At those concentrations, he claims that the sanitizer is no-rinse.

With regard to the StarSan, the same gentleman stated that once the pH goes above 3, the ingredients in the foam actually become yeast nutrients of sorts.

I have to state for the record, that I have never used either of these, I have been a steady iodophor user since the beginning, but I am going to try the bleach when the current bottle of iodophor runs out.

I used to use iodophor for everything but my plastic buckets, I used bleach for them. That sickly orange tint it gave the plastic was a little too much for me, even though it never seemed to affect the beer. I used bleach for the buckets, but now I generally use Starsan for anything that requires much volume.

So far, I've had no infections or off tastes using the bleach and vinegar solution as a no rinse sanitizer. I've used it to bottle a light wheat and on a cider that’s finishing up fermentation.

Meh... There is vodka out there that is cheaper than bottled water. Even at that, I have Grey Goose in my airlock now because I was out of crap vodka and I enjoy my HB more than vodka.

Well, even homebrew needs the good stuff.

I am a dedicated star san user also...simply easy to use, and stores for a long time.

They do make a non foaming version, but I have not used it.

I beielve morebeer has the best deal on Starsan at the momnent

After having the star-san vs. one-step discussion a couple of weeks ago, I busted out the bottle of Star-San I bought way back when to give it a try. The solution is now sitting in a bucket in my basement, but I have one question.

How do you know when it is no longer useful as a sanitizer?
