Is your new beau really that fond of Guinness in the US? Some swear there is quite a difference between what is served here and in Ireland. And most of the pints I've had have been served much too cold.
San Francisco has some great beer bars and brewpubs. If you don't find that great pint of Guinness, you're sure to find something equally or more delicious. Good luck.

Hi there, thanks for that, I agree gonna be hard perhaps to beat the stuff from Dublin, suppose i just want to make an effort and not end up in a joint where they think Bud Light is a taste beer !!!!!

I think you should forget about Guinness and give him a real treat by taking him to one of the best beer bars in the United States... Toronado in the lower Haight. http://www.toronado.com
If he insists on a Guinness, they have it.

In addition to Toronado, there are plenty of brewpubs in and around the city:
21st Amendment:

Magnolia:

Rogue Publick House:

Moylan's Brewing Co. and/or Marin Brewing (north of the city):

Or tour a historical brewery like Anchor, who make a great Porter:
