I know its almost blasphemy, but I noticed Michelob's Maerzen in my grocery store yesterday. I doubt I'll try it, but was wondering if someone else had. Anybody?

Just about a year ago: Tasting Notes. (http://www.realbeer.com/discussions/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12874&highlight=Michelob) And I doubt it's changed much.

Sorry, we're a little slow down here! Based on your notes, I'll stick to my Spaten unless there's nothing else.

Naw, based on their silver medal at the GABF, I guessed they'd bring it back out sooner or later -- but yeah, I'd pick a Spaten Okto over it any day -- even these days when Spaten has stopped decoction mashing.

the michelob lager and amber bock are pretty good for the price, i think. anything else in the 9$/12pack range is going to be a boring adjunct lager like fosters.
i drank an ayinger marzen yesterday and it was pretty good, but it doesn't feel like a "fest" beer if you can only afford 2 or 3.
i will buy this if i see it. alot of the reviews i see for cheaper beer dont give it any credit for being a good value.
ofcourse, i admit michelob ultra should be banished off the face of the earth.

edit: doesn't spaten come in green bottles? i think that's why i avoided it.

90% of the Oktoberfest is new enough on the shelves to not have been skunked. You can get the Spaten Premium in covered 12 packs (as you can Urquell), but my gripe to Spaten is that they've stopped double decoction mashing. They say it's because it saves time and no one can really notice the difference -- I say, see the Tasting Notes post on, "Something Missing in This Year's Spaten?"
