Has anyone tried the opposite of chilling . Sending the Wort through the Copper Pipe after putting the Copper Piping in another pail filled with Water and Ice ????? Is this a risky move , can it work ?? is it better ??

Thanks
John

There is a device called a counter-flow wort chiller that uses a copper tube inside a vinyl tube where cold water circulates through the vinyl tube in one direction while the wort travels the other direction. See this link for a picture:

There is also something they refer to as a pre-chiller that is simply another coil that is immersed in an ice bath so that the water going into the wort chiller is prechilled to less than tap temperature.
