After all, what else can I review but a local microbrew. This is going to be a very basic amatuer review because thats my style.

First off I didn't expect much from a hawaii brew, were not famous for our beer here. The beer was on sale for 6$ or something a 6 pack so I said what the hell ill give it a try. I generally dislike lagers.

First impression by smell, not too good, expected better then average but semi-typical lager. After a half glass, starts to go down smooth, tastes kinda sweet, not too bitter. Aftertaste is decent, kinda feels like liquid candy, maybe the slightest bit of apple but maybe i'm just imagining it. Little to no head, nor head retention. Bottle doesn't say but one source says 4.7abv, tastes like it. Color: Orangered. Overall: Impressed only because I expected very little, lagers still arn't my thing but I certainly don't regret buying this beer. If you can get a single bottle, try it out, if not skip it unless your rich and just want to try every beer possible. Cheers!

Thanks for the review. Have you checked out the Mehana web site? http://www.mehana.com/ Their description of the "Hawiian-style European lager" might help your tasting observations.

Hawiian-Style European Lager. HHMMMMM......... The description on the website sounds interesting as did Herb's review. I just am having a hard time merging Hawiian and European styles. If I just read that I would probably translate it mean bland, light, slightly hoppy lager. Good on a warm day after mowing. The European part of the equation is what throws me.

Thanks for the link steveh. :)

Hawaiian style, that doesn't make much since I never knew the hawaiians to brew beer. Why they would mix it with european style I dunno, what does that mean anyway... confusing. It gave me quite a hangover, I don't know that its the specific beer its probably just some odd rare thing mixed in with dehydration and depleted b vitamins, even though I had 16 ounces of water with every beer, 3 beers total. I rarely ever get a hangover from beer.

My guess is that their other beers are better, I want to try the Mauna Kea Pale Ale eventually. Anyway, Peace, HN-
