hi!, I've pitched the yeast on Thursday, 26. I'm worried, could
be possible that the batch of Porter is ready to be racked to a secondary already? Today is only Saturday! The original gravity
was 1.050 it's now 1.020 and fermentation has slowed. I'm trying to keep the temp. at 70. If anyone can help , THANKS!!!!

1) A good rule of thumb is to wait until the bubbler in the airlock slows to less than one "burp" per 90 seconds.

2) Letting your beer sit in the fermenter for a couple days after active fermentation ends will not harm it.

It is not uncommon to have active fermentation complete within two days or so. Don't worry too much, maybe rack it to the secondary on Monday or Tuesday.

Yeah, Don't worry and drink a beer! Sorry that probably doesn't help...

If you are having problems keeping the temp up, you can buy a heater belt. I have one that i use to keep my beer up to temp down in the basement.

A clear case of you having too much time on your hands.

Don't worry. Brew on Fri or Sat. Let it sit for a week no matter what it does. If it is ready on Sat. you can rack to secondary. Wait another full week. At least. (remember that you don't need to secondary a porter unless you feel like it. its never ever going to be clear!)

Bottle a week later. Don't try to push the time.

Let it condition a week. Don't push the timing.

I wish that there was a law that new brewers not be allowed to have a full kit until their third batch. You don't have to worry about hydrometer readings your first couple of times out. Learn that brewers have made great beer before meters!
