My Website (http://www.angelfire.com/trek/herbninja/) I hope its ok of me to have a link to it.
Anyway, i'm pissed at this cult. :( In short they brainwashed my sister and convinced her to break off all contact with me. Thats partly what my avatar, a.k.a gif next to my name, is about. You may be thinking, why not unbrainwash her? Not so easy, ive been trying that for years with little to no success. Scientology is more then the butt of a few jokes, its real, and its probably destroying a family near you. Just visit my website for a few minutes please, if you think i'm purely some psycho working to end Scientology for my own selfish reasons well I don't think your going to gain much from my website and you may as well skip it. Anyway, heres a thread to share your digust with this cult, or anything about it at all. If you think $cientology is good I welcome you to post why. Thanks for taking this time to read this, best wishes & peace, HN-

Best of luck to you and your sister. From what I've heard, you've got a very difficult road ahead of you. What amazes me is the absolute absurdity of it! A sci-fi writer starting an absurd sci-fi religion! Bizarre!!!

I feel bad for you, HerbN...man, I hope someday soon things turn around for you & sis....I definitely cannot blame you for your crusade!! I did visit your site, and am impressed with the amount of work you obviously devoted to this---on behalf of your sister. That's pretty high class, man....
Just a side note on scientology (& certainly not to make light of the subject).....but I religiously watched the TV show "King of Queens" because I thought (&, truthfully still think) Leah Remini is just one super hot ass. Someone told me, however, that she a) is a member of the church of scientology, & b) she's a bitch. Just kind of made me look at her in a different light. And, don't watch the show as much anymore. Dunno if there is really any truth to this info or not, & can't think of who provided me with that information.
Drink hearty, y'all!!!!

(nevermind my avatar, I changed it, wasn't beer related enough.)

Your correct, deprograming a scientologist is no easy task. They are convinced that scientology is the only way to save the world, to make a peaceful word, "the only way to spiritual freedom." It doesn't take much to prove that wrong, this (http://www.whyaretheydead.net) website is a scary example.

Thanks for the support guys. I may come across as wanting sympathy but thats not my true goal, if I can inform people so that somebody they know doesn't end up brainwashed like my sister it was all worth it. Ohh and the website was pretty easy, I created it in the last day and a half. Aquire some quotes, post some links, not the hardest thing in the world.

I don't personally know if shes a scientologist. I know a bodyguard of John Travolta the actor/scientologist that says hes an asshole for the most part. Tom cruise is also a scientologist, although I don't know if hes an asshole I choose not to support him by not going to his movies.
Scientoligists believe in reincarnation but I personally think when you die your dead. ;)

Has anyone else noticed that there's an ad/link for scientology at the bottom of this page?
I must profess my ignorance about Scientology; all I know is that a handful of Hollywood "stars" have been preaching it for years, and wasn't that trainwreck of a film ("Battleground Earth" with Travolta) supposed to be a Scientology vehicle? From the outside looking in, it all sounds pretty ridiculous.

i don't know anything about Scientology , but i know some people seem to have a void , something making them feel incomplete and want to fill it. they want to belong to something bigger then them, something to make them feel like thay are a part of something. i am 1/2 native american and i used to go to gatherings and i would see a lot of theses people there. they seem to be looking for some kind of purpos being whatever it may be? i'd see theses people "walking the red road" and it brought peace to them, although they weren't always on the red path. i've been indian my whole life and was brought up in the culture, but i never felt a need to belong to it ,i just did. i get a lot of other indains trying to tell me how to walk in beauty "the red path" it's good to know where you come from but my whole life does not revolve around "being indain". i don't know why people feel this way, i don't completely understand it either. but as i was checking out the web sites i see these kind of people make up the majority of there cult.... it would seem you have a tough battle ahead of you herbninja and my preyers go out to you.

I live in Florida, which is basically the haven of the whole stinkin church (cult) of scientology. Man, I'm sorry for you and your sis. I always look at the scientologist religion as the biggest joke of the century. Some guy writes a book, people believe it, and they all act crazy and start sending money. Now, real religion started about 2000 years ago when, oh crap, someone wrote a book, people read it, went crazy and started sending money!
I hope you have success with your sister man. If you notice, almost any religion can produce "crazies", turn on TBN sometime and you see some sick shit. I see it like this, there are two kinds of people in this world, the sheep, and the herders. Now the sheep don't know the difference between a wolf and a german shephard. When the sheep get scared you can watch the glassy look pour slowly over their eyes and then they really don't care where they're going, just so long as they don't have to decide where to go.
Not that your sister is a sheep. I'm just saying, typically these people who look "crazy" to us are not really that, just impressionable and mislead.
Anyways, good luck. Maybe you should write Oprah, her competing book cult (I mean club) might have something to say.

Clearwater, Flordia. They practically own that town.

True, but scientology is not a religion. Scientology is a greedy cultlike business. Maybe this could be said for many religions.... It doesn't just simply pass around the collection plate or ask for 10% of your income, it claims that all possessions, all money, your house, your car, all are not as important as giving them money "because their technology lasts beyond this lifetime and supercedes money" yet instead of spreading lots of this "auditing"(brainwashing) for cheap they charge insane amounts up to 1000$ per hour. This only thing thats affordable is their main book, dianetics, which is the foundation and whats supposed to suck you in aside from their coercive recruiters.
ENEMY Suppressive Person Order. Fair game.
May be deprived of property or injured by any means by any Scientologist without any discipline of the Scientologist. May be tricked, sued or lied to or destroyed.
--Hubbard Communications Office Policy Letter of 18 October 1967
This is one of scientologies doctrines by the creator, in essence it says any critic of the cult, anybody thats agains't it even for good reasons is a Suppressive Person standing in the way of them. "May be tricked, sued, lied to, or destroyed(murdered.)"
THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN CONTROL PEOPLE IS TO LIE TO THEM. You can write that down in your book in great big letters. The only way you can control anybody is to lie to them.
-L. Ron Hubbard, "Technique 88"
This doesn't exactly imply they will lie, but why else would hubbard be explaining this technique?
The homes, property, places and abodes of persons who have been active in attempting to suppress Scientology or Scientologists are all beyond any protection of Scientology Ethics, unless absolved by later Ethics or an amnesty.
[...]
A truly Suppressive Person or group has no rights of any kind and actions taken against them are not punishable.
HCO PL March 1, 1965 "HCO (Division 1), Ethics, Suppressive Acts, Suppression of Scientology and Scientologists, The Fair Game Law"
Freedom of religion baby. God bless America.......
Scientologists should never let themselves be interviewed by the press. That's experience talking! L. Ron Hubbard-
The goal of the department [a branch of scientology] is to bring the government and hostile philosophies or societies into a state of complete compliance with the goals of Scientology. This is done by a high level ability to control and in its absence by a low level ability to overwhelm. Introvert such agencies. Control such agencies. --L. Ron Hubbard, evidence in Church of Spiritual Technology v. U.S., November 22, 1989.
Scientology had filed about 2500 lawsuits again'st the IRS, its suspected they made an illegal deal to declare them a religion, give them tax exemption, and allow them charge set prices for their auditing and book packages. I don't have the specifics on that at this time so if you want to know more about that your gonna have to go look it up, sorry.
Since scientology is considered a bonified relgion it avoids paying its staff declaring them volunteers, it can also avoid child labor laws and overtime laws. Essentially a good way to make sure the "church" never goes bankrupt. Scientology even has a psuedo navy known as the "sea org" where members sign a billion year contract as they claim to come back and help hubbard in every lifetime until they "clear"(brainwash) the world. They have three ships, Royal Scotman known as the flagship, and Athena and yacht Diana. Click here to learn more (http://www.xenu.net/archive/so/)
The current (conservative) total cost for the whole bridge to OT9 readiness is estimated at $365,000 - $380,000.
The "bridge" is the way up to "total freedom" through brainwashing, reading their many books, ect... It goes through stages and the total cost as seen above is not a joke.
In essence, ive never seen a relgion go to such extreme psuedo military extents to spread its philosiphy. My sister attacked my family members on several occassions, including me, because of our refusal to join scientology. She spread countless lies, things like I was a heroin addict, my parents were cocaine addicts, my cousin was a pedofile, and my aunt and uncle big time drug smugglers. All without any evidence, whatsover, lies. She once attempted to stab my father. Soon after we decided she was a threat to our lives and was sent away, where she remains an scientologist not active at any of their "churches" but my dad is still generous enough to pay for her food and rent, at 21. Scientoligists have near total disregard for morality and the law claiming, "life is just a game" and "the ends justify the means." I never felt threatened by a buddist, or a luthern, or a christian, or a catholic, for the most part ive only had good encounters with them as they seemed peaceful. Scientologists on the other hand... well.. you get the idea....

Sorry to bring up a dead thread, but I was scouring past posts, and this one made me think of a good friend of mine.
She and a friend went into a Scientology "church" on a whim, and took their psych profile test. They were just messing around and bored.
My friend took the test in a way to make her appear as messed up as possible. She was in their office when they 'graded' the test. After the grading, they locked the doors and refused to let her leave. The reasoning was along the lines of her being a threat to society, and her need for "professional monitoring."
I'll have to ask her to refresh my memory about the story tomorrow, but I do remember that it ended with a bloody and bruised scientologist, and two more scientologist-haters running around.
Well, I guess that's what you get when you lock a "sociopath" in your office with you.
