Abita has a new brew called Pecan Harvest Ale. I had some at the brewpub a few months ago and now it's in stores. I really enjoyed it! It has a hint of Pecan, but not much. On a scale of 1-10, I would give it a 7.

Is it bottled? Lazy Magnolia in Mississippi makes a Southern Pecan Brown Ale. I thought the pecan could've been a little more present in their brew. I'll look out for the Abita. Do a little comparison tasting:D .

Yes, it is bottled. First time I had it was at the brewpub, but they just started to bottle it. I haven't seen Lazy Magnolia. Do they sell it in Louisiana? I also thought the pecan could be a little more present in Abita, but it is really good.

Pre-Katrina, I believe they had several accounts over in LA. But the original brewery was in Kiln, right outside of Waveland, one of the areas hardest hit by the storm surge. The building wasn't flattened but was very, very flooded. Without having checked their website in some time, I believe they're still temporarily in Hattiesburg. You can get their beers there and in several places in Jackson, as well as in Pascagoula (if memory serves). They don't bottle, so you'll either find their beers on tap or in party pigs. Don't know if they've managed to make it back to your area yet.

If you click on "Gulf Coast" at the bottom it'll give you some establishments closer to your area (obviously). And cruising around their website, looks like they're back in Kiln. Guess I shoulda done my research before posting. Never claimed to be the sharpest tool in the shed:rolleyes: .

Lazy Magnolia came to a brewfest in lafayette. I liked their pecan beer better than Abita's, but the abita is decent. Make sure you let the abita warm a bit or you can't taste the pecan at all.

Guys, if you can get your hands on LM's Amberjaque Rye Amber Ale, grab it. I'm not a fan of ambers by and large, but the rye malt in this beer really makes it stand out IMO.

OK...I tried the Abita Pecan Harvest again last night and I thought it was better this time. It really is a good beer! I'm not sure, but I think it's unfiltered. Really good taste and a great beer for the fall!

Abita filters everything (even the wheat summer seasonal).

Abita filters everything (even the wheat summer seasonal). Hmmm...so what gives it that cloudy look?

there was actually an article in the Wash. Post on Abita yesterday. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/09/11/AR2007091100453.html Apparently the nuts are added to the Mash Tun. I happened to buy a six of the bottles last weekend and enjoyed one after a long day of sanding walls on Sunday. I loved the scent of the pecans at the beginning of the taste, but surprisingly wanted a little more of the flavor to mix with the malt. but...with that being said, I have only had the one, and should probably go back for additional tastes (shucky darn).

I mentioned earlier that this brew needs to warm up a bit before the nutty taste comes through.
