I just learned from my local beer bar that Young's isn't making kegs of this outstanding brew available for the U.S. this year - my Holiday season just got less cheery. :(

We need to send Richard over to Young's brewery to straighten this out, immediately!!

To The Brewers At Young's
We prefer your beer to A-B swill - send us as many kegs as possible.

That DOES suck!! I was planning on buying lots of that this year--a fine brew indeed.

As I understand it, you'll still be able to find it in the bottle and can, just not on draft.

Looks like I will have to look for another favorite on draft at my local alehouse.:(

Ask them what *they* hear. Always up for a "second opinion."

I just purchased two 4-packs of the cans on Saturday. This on draught is excellent but I have not had the cans before. Hope it's at least half as good and I'll be satisfied.

i was never real impressed with it, it's a good breer don't get me wrong, but i think i may just be getting old bottles as they do not move real well out here. i'd love to try it on draught...guess that'll never happen

I've had the same thing happen - mostly the bottles(90% at least) are not nearly as good as the cans. Give the widget cans a try.

I've had good luck with freshness in the bottles, and liked them better than the widget-can. I think the nitro masks some of the flavor or may add an off flavor that takes away from the chocolate.

i've seen the cans.....but i usually choose the , well... always choose the bottles. i'll have to try it in the can, maybe get one of each and compare the two..... i think the only beer i ever drink that comes in a can is the guinness draught, so i guess i'll just have to think about it that way.

I've had so many in the bottle that tasted really old and had a nasty bite to it. I agree that you get a little nitro-wash but I've had terrible luck with the bottles.

I buy the Young's Dbl Chocolate and the Oatmeal Stout solely in the cans now. Very, very close to the way they taste on tap at the local pub.

I have to cast a vote for the widget can...I keep it very cold, pour it out, and by the time it warms to drinking temperture, it is excellent. Unfortunately, you need to open the second one as soon as you begin drinking the first.:D

AHHHHHHHHH! Say it isn't so. This was THE perfect dessert beer, especially mixed half & half with a good lambic. Hopefully The Flying Saucer (http://www.beerknurd.com) will keep some on tap.

Let us know if they're still able to get it, but my bar manager tells me they aren't kegging it. End of an era. :(

Wow. Mixed with a lambic? I'll have to try that. By the way which lambic would you recommend mixing it with?

Hmmmm. A local bar just tapped a keg of this and I know I had some in Boston not too long ago - where, by the way, I mixed it with Lindeman's Framboise - very tasty!! I wouldn't mix it with an authentic sour lambic. But with the sweetened ones from Lindeman's it's gold!

Anyway's here's the draft list from Anan Cara Publick House, one of the best bars in Boston with the Double Chocolate Stout. The guy who posted about Boston's "weak" beer scene might want to read this and see what he missed out on. Cheers!

I would start with the Bluebird Bitter. Yum! Nice selection. I think Boston is a fun town. Good food up in Little Italy too.

Nice selection, but....no PBR? ;)

I see #9 listed. My relatives and friends who still live in New England (CT) are split down the middle regarding #9 - they either love it, or hate it. I had it on tap a few years ago at the Hat City Ale House in Danbury, and thought it was a beer that I could do without. The apricot flavor seemed quasi-artificial to me, but it wasn't horrendous. I could drink one or two if pressed. What do you guys think?

The cherry lambic (Kriek) from Lindemann's is a good start. But raspberry should work, too.

I could do without it as well. Never liked apricots - alone or in my beer. But it seems to be one of MH's best sellers and moneymakers. So I can just bypass it and pick up some of their other gems.

Cheers!

After I learned from this board that other places in the country were still able to procure Young's Dbl Choc, I put the bar manager of my local on the trail. He did some sniffing around, made some found calls and discovered that the representative of the local distributor handling Young's was flat wrong and had been dispensing bad information!

The Dbl Choc is still being kegged for U.S. customers, is back in my local in time for the holidays, and is as delicious as ever!

I'd have to say that the Realbeer.com community was the catalyst to uncover this discrepency and helped keep us from missing this gem of a beer this season!

Thanks to all who helped with their information.

A world without Youngs would be a sad one.

This is definately good stuff. I like the bottles better, but then again, where I buy mine, the stuff goes fast. Every time I grab one off the shelf, someone else is getting one, too.

Pyramid has an Apricot Ale which is pretty tasty, for those who are interested. Never have blended it with Young's, though.

But I am VERY happy to hear that this fine beer will still be available.
