View Full Version : Concentrated wort - need more O2 - Help!

Greetings,

I did a concentrated wort, 1.5 gallons and probably didn't get the splash transfer I needed. My bubbling was fast and furious for a while, then went to sleep. I read on here to swirl it, and that helped, but the yeast went to sleep again. It is now my fourth day in the primary bucket, and it will likely remain there for 3 weeks as I don't have a glass carboy, only another bucket w/2" head room. I'm concerned that there wasn't enough O2. How can I introduce more w/o ruining my efforts, or should I stay put and stop watching the airlock? Any ideas would help greatly! Thanks!

I left this out. I used Wyeast activator pack and in my brew excitement, neglected a gravity measurement.

Too late to re-oxygen the wort....what is your current gravity reading?

Sorry about the double post-I wanted it in the extract section.

Well I'm bubbling a little after the swirling. My SG is 1.011, and the kit says the Original is 1.067, so I think this is good news.

I know that you are excited to taste this beer, but you need to
stop swirling it now. You run the risk of oxidating and also introducing bacteria. This will make the beer taste like shit.

Give it 2 whole weeks in the primary then bottle it. That will give the yeast the time they need to finish off the by products that will exist in the beer AFTER the primary krausen head has disappeared. The yeast will still be very much at work making your beer taste good as long as you don't screw with them changing the beer chemistry on them. Patience at this stage is key, and it will be rewarded. Remember, those yeast don't give a rat's ass who you are. You may think you can get them to ferment the beer faster, but don't kid yourself. You cannot and all it will do is fuck your beer up.

The best thing you can do to take your mind off this batch is to start planning (and if possible, brewing) your next batch.

Thanks for the advice. It's sitting and I'm waiting. Bottle after 2 or 3 weeks in primary?
