I am flying to Seattle in a couple of weeks and was wondering if I could legally bring some beer back with me in my checked bags. Anyone know about the T.S.A. "liquid " restrictions? Is this just for carry on bags? Don't want to violate any Homeland Security issues.

As far as I know you can still put liquids in checked bags, but I would definitely be fearful of doing it (altitude changes and sealed pressurized containers always give me the willies).

You can always check TSA.gov for info, and I think some have had luck packing the beer in a PVC pipe, padded and capped.

FINALLY a fellow home brewer where i can help. (so used to people answering ym questions).

The answer is yes aslong as you put in in your checked baggage and it is within the weight and size restriction you are good. However If its a prewssurized keg i would depressurize it and then put it in. Although if it was pressurized i highly doubt anything would happen to it just better safe then sorry.

My dads a pilot for air canada, im in a aviation school and get my lisence in a matter of weeks (sorry i had to say it...im excited at hell)

have fun :)

I carried back a sixer of Goose Island Pale Ale last month on a return trip from Chicago by putting it in checked baggage. No problem.

I'd use the ziplock method to protect things in case anything was to leak.

There's always the option of shipping it to yourself, of course.

I will carry as much back as my bag and wallet can handle. I just wanted to make sure it was legal now days. I carried a rack of Weizenbock back in my carry on bag when I was in the Army. It was a bitch dragging that thing all the way from Germany to Texas. Thaught I was going to have an heart attack in the DFW airport trying to run from one end to the next in 10 min. to get to my terminal, but I made it. I was just unsure because it has been since '92 that I have flown. Thanks for all the responses.

I have had had bottles leak a little around the crowns / caps. I'd definitely use the zip lock bags around them.

Checked bags are ok to bring beer. I have done it all the time. I have managed a couple of 24's in cans even a couple of times. They are more concernrd about you being over your weight limit. Just pack them around towels or clothing. If you are afraid of them busting, the zip-lock method works fine as well.

I just returned from CA. While there I purchased a 12 bottle shipping box from a winery. I then filled it with beer and wine (mostly beer and mostly from Stone and AleSmith). As long as it meets the airlines dimension, weight, and number of checked luggage then it worked out great. Of course I also wrapped several bottles in clothes in my other carry on. I almost mailed my clothes home and got another box of 12 to bring back more. As it was I over extended the budget.

I just flew from FL back to NY today. While on line, Jetblue. I saw their warning sign. It covered things you can not put on plane check in or carry on. Alcohol was not on the list period.

I have been taking beer down in my checked luggage with no problems, not even any leakage.

I recently took a sixer of homebrew to Ireland (yeah, and ice to eskimos to you too) each one wrapped in a bath towel and all were fine on arrival. Their demise was rather soon after though (guildofevil assisting). Two bottles of Guinness Foreign Extra Stout follow me back also without incident. The US Customs guy at the pre-boarding facility at Dublin Airport asked if I was bringing any alcohol back, and when I told him about the two bottles, he smiled.
