I am going w/ a 1/6 of Flying Fish Farmhouse but need another to go w/ it.
Selections are:
Victory Prima Pils
Victory HopDevil
Magic Hat #9
Alegash White
Harpoon UFO
Smuttynose Pils
I am kinda leaning towards the MH #9
Thoughts/ suggestions?

Tough choice. I really like the Prima Pils for a summertime quaff.

Prima Pils.
I loathe MH #9.
Smuttynose Shoals Pale Ale is a nice beer (assuming it's available as you state their Lager is in consideration).

I know that the FF FH is hoppy, but to pair it w/ the Prima, wouldnt I have similar styles? I want to go to the ends of the spectrum w/ this mix

I have FF FH on one of my taps right now. The other is Troegs Sunshine Pils. This is my 2nd keg of the Sunshine and it's nearly empty. The Flying Fish Farm House is very nice and it is sweeter than the Sunshine that has a nice hoppy back to it. The Sunshine is popular at my house.

went w/ the FF FH and a Victory Hopdevil. It was that or DFH 60 min and that was walking out the door as I was walking in:mad:

I second the above thought whole heartedly.

I rarely buy Magic Hat products. It's been a long time. The reason is that I usually don't know which style is which and their labels are not informative at all unless they have changed them. I'm not buying something that I'm not sure what it is.

Many of their labels do indicate what type of beer is inside now.
Sadly, it doesn't improve the flavor.
Magic Hat is certainly capable of brewing some great beers (original HiPA, Thumbsucker, Braggot, Antioxidant Acid Ale, Heart of Darkness, etc.). Sadly, those brews weren't profitable enough (?) as they all were retired in favor of inferior beers, imo.
Maybe MH is a victim of their own game. Their loyalists are used to such quirk and hype and showmanship that the beer seemed to take a backseat. So when they brewed some truly flavorful beers, people in general didn't know what to make of it.
Jest a guess.

I think this may have happened at some other places I can think of. Not necessarily that the beers are bad but I sometimes get tired of the extreme or weird offerings that some places keep offering up because it garners lots of attention and keeps them on the minds of beer geeks everywhere. While other breweries that make excellent "normal" styles get overlooked.

i agree with this to some extent, as it is obviously the case with DFH, but they can experiment all they want as far as i am concerned as long as they keep making the 60 and the 90

Are you going to the DFH glass givaway tomorrow evening at Rustico? I'll be there.
