Last night I tried one of the Porters that I was stressing so much over.

Psssssst ... that's a good sign ... its got carbonation at least.

Pours a nice brown head but it doesn't linger around long.

Dark ... Dark ... Dark ... WooHoo! Ain't no light making it through this brew.

Its beer alright but I really don't know what the ABV level is. From my hydro readings I'm guessing something in the 4% range. I think the recipe was calling for something in the mid 5's.

I would prefer a bigger hop profile in future batches but this one turned out okay after all.

Like CharlesP says, "Relax ... have a homebrew"! I guess it really is hard to totally mess a batch up. What a relief.

I'm starting to think, barring infection, it's next to impossible to completely screw up a batch to the point of undrinkable.

I have come to that conclusion as well, FastEd....for the 1st couple years I always sweated out my batches and then realized that, as long as you make reasonable efforts in sanitation, etc. (and just adhering to a few simple rules) screwing up a batch is something that one would have to try very hard to do:)
